Specter Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 So I went to Blockbuster to see if there was anything I should rent, and as I was walking around, I saw a girl there, we made eye contact, and it was electric. And then, due to my shy nature, I blushed and wandered around, looking at things here and there, and she did the same. Eventually she left without renting anything, and after a few minutes, I did the same. She was still out in her car though, and I only noticed when I got into my car and started to leave, she did too. Why is it that, being a youth minister, I talk with girls all the time, at all ages, without a problem, but when I see a girl outside of my element, I get all shy and have trouble figuring out what to say? It's like this time I went to Steubenville, and a girl came up to me, told me that she thought I was "hot" and wanted to hang out after Adoration that night, which never happened because my youth group had a small group thing that took about a half hour and I could never find that girl again. I don't even remember her name (so bad with names anyway). I never forget things like that. I gotta shake off this shyness somehow, and I should have just said "hi" to that girl at Blockbuster. I couldn't see anything about her that would give away her religion or anything, except that she was dressed warmly and conservatively. Could have been due to winter, but may not have been. Thoughts?
HomeTeamFamily Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 hey man, if it was meant to be, it will be.....dont worry about dropping the ball, just keep praying for your future wife and God will provide
Balthazor Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Don't feel bad. As soon as I see a nice, good looking guy I freeze up and start grinning like an idiot. And then I never talk to them. I talk to everyone else though, I am almost fearless in every other aspect of my life. I would not worry so much though. If you ask some one out whatis the worst that could happen? They could say no. and then there is nothing lost and nothing gained.
Specter Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 (edited) I'm probably going to register to be an E5 man. Yeah, I've just gotta continue to pray for my future wife. I believe though, that God will nudge you in directions and you've gotta make the move. I think that He'll get the other person to do something though, if that's what it takes.. and sometimes it does. I've seen it happen. And that is true Balthazor Edited February 8, 2005 by Specter
jimbo Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Just gut it up, man. The worst that can happen is she'll laugh in your face, say no loud enough for everyone to hear, and then gossip about "that geek that though he could talk to me" to all her friends...
Specter Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 That's true. I dunno, I get all red in the face and trip over my words. It's a rough life that I lead. Haha.
JoannaBanana Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 (edited) Am I going to have to give you the "Joanna Guide On Not To Be Shy"!?!..haha well...everyone gets shy but it's something you have to over come, and eventually willl..just either ... A. Give it Time OR B. Go up To a girl and TALK TALK TALK!!..even if you blush..because heck i'll give you a tip..i'm a girl..and when a guy blushes it's the cutest thing!!....and i'm prettty sure every girl well agree on that..if not..then..they're mean lol Edited February 9, 2005 by JoannaBanana
Mr. Cube Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I feel your pain. :_( The same thing has happened to me many times in many places.
Guest Eremite Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 You can bust out a Catholic pickup line. "You have such nice scapular brown eyes" always seems to work.
Specter Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 Joanna Banana: Sweet advice! So what you're saying is, if you start to blush, just let it happen, because she'll notice and think it's adorable? Sounds so simple! Mr. Cube: Indeed, it happens to the best of us! Eremite: That is one of the funniest things I've heard. haha.. I'm not even sure if she's Catholic.
toledo_jesus Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Random meetings seldom progress into lasting relationships. If there is nobody in your life right now that you can see being a wife to you, wait a few years and you may be surprised at who pops up. Then again, you won't meet new people if you don't go out and...meet them.
blovedwolfofgod Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005
hey man, if it was meant to be, it will be.....dont worry about dropping the ball, just keep praying for your future wife and God will provide
Yeah... umm, no. God will provide the opportunity. Specter, if you read the Genesis creation account you find that there is a flopping of roles. Women try to overthrow, men are lazy and do nothing. Now, we are supposed to be proactive. Bite the bullet and grow a pear. If you want women, you gotta fight for 'em. God will provide the opportunity, but you dont gotta answer the door when He sends her knockin. Its called free will. I dont believe the Church supports predestinition, but rather the foreknowledge of God. You may not end up with whom God intends. If people did, would there be so much divorce? (previous two lines do not represent the church, but are rather my opinion from observation and learning) Dude, if your not couragous, your not gettin anyone... and maybe your not ready.
Krush2k2 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 you shoulda thrown a cheesy blockbuster pickup line towards her, such as.. "Its not just movies I'm checking out" haha jk
toledo_jesus Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005
grow a pear.
mmmm....tasty. that'll bring all the hungry ladies.
Specter Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 That is hilarious! blovedwolfofgod: Have you read Wild at Heart or God's Gift to Women? I've read one of them, and am reading the other. It says kinda what you did, only there is a chance that God will provide. We have to allow God to work, too.
Socrates Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I used to be a bit shy (still am, somewhat), but I've found the less shy and more agressive I am, the more women avoid me. BUt maybe that's because I'm a scary-looking brute! Yes, you definatley need to grow a pear. Women love men with pears.
JazzforJesus Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Im shy too, and i have alot of friends that are girls, well lets say i have a fair number of friends and only 3 guy fiends. I can talk to them fine, but i start getting bad at talking when i start to like some of them, least i dont talk enough for them to notice. But i just pray, and hope that when she comes around i dont screw things up and loose her
curtins Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 oh man this is funny- i mean all the pickup lines and such but dude- i know how you feel just bite the bullet and be like hey hows it goin what ever you do just dont say (in geeky voice) "hey you got an email address or somethin?"
Specter Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 yeah, if I run into her again, then I'll be sure and say "Hey, didn't I just see you in here last week?"
Carnanc Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I think joining the E5 thing is a really good idea. prayer always helps. important rule with all types of social anxiety such as this situation is to not let it get you down. negative thoughts about not being able to do what you want to do never help me anyway. I'm so shy I'm still working on being able to say hi to any girl in any situation. Just push your comfort zone and will get better. God Bless.
