Vickles Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Today in the gospel in church it talked about the hypocrites and how they would give alms in public, fast publicly and make themselves look bad, and pray in public. For the most part, I understood the ponit of the reading. What I don't understand is what "giving alms" or "almsgiving" is. I've heard the term before but don't quite understand it. Could someone clear this up for me?
Pontifex Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 The word alm Comes from the greek, eleemosyne which means, "pity," or "mercy". It basically means any material action done for the needy, motivated by Love. I hope that answers your question. I have question for you, why do you have "I think therefore I am." in your signature? It basically is the line of thinking that has corrupted our communal understanding of salvation. Peace.
