phatcatholic Posted February 24, 2005 Author Posted February 24, 2005 i just thought of something else......... i think the title "spouse of the holy spirit" is meant to convey the relationship of love between Mary and the Lord, and not so much the specific actions the Holy Spirit took in overshadowing her or the degree to which the Spirit is the cause of the conception of the "God-made-man." i see now that my opponent is stripping the title of its intent and taking it too literally when he accuses Joseph or the Spirit of adultery.
argent_paladin Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 Exactly. I was talking about this to a friend and used the analogy of a married couple who uses a sperm bank to get pregnant. This is not adultery (though it may not be moral). Mary is "ever-virgin" which I define as never having engaged in any sexual activity of any kind. Therefore, she couldn't have been involved in an adulterous relationship.
