Not only are they incredibly talented, their music varies from really fun to really deep material. Their first album, self-titled "Relient K," was coming out, and I saw an ad for it in an issue of CCM. I decided to buy it because they had songs like "Hello McFly," "Charles in Charge," and "Nancy Drew" on it. Not to mention the rest of the album was awesome, with such awesome songs as "Wake Up Call" and "Softer to Me."

Their album was a definite favorite of mine.

Then they announce their second album. "The Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek." Surely this album cannot be as good as the first! Oh, but it was. It is! And in some ways, it's even BETTER. "Sadie Hawkins Dance" was a huge hit from that album, but not the strongest song on the album. The best song on the album is the ballad "For the Moments I Feel Faint." This album also brought us the great songs: "Pressing On," "Those Words are Not Enough," "I'm Lion-O," and More.

Then came the announcement of the third album. I was afraid. Their second album was so amazing. How could this one be that great? Again, they proved themselves worthy. "Two Lefts Don't Make a Right.. But Three Do" came out and I immediately was drawn to the music like it was an old friend I haven't seen in a long time. Songs like "Chapstick, Chapped Lips, and things like Chemistry," "Mood Rings," "College Kids," "Falling Out," "Forward Motion," "In Love with the 80's (Pink Tux to the Prom)," "I Am Understood?," "Getting Into You," and the best secret song ever secured Relient K as my all time favorite band.

They announced the release of the Christmas album, "Deck the Halls, Bruise your Hand" which came with a free copy of "Two Lefts..." and I was like "Excellent!" But nothing could have prepared me for one of the most profound Christmas songs I've ever heard. It's called "I Celebrate the Day."
And the first time
That You opened Your eyes
did You realize that You would be my Savior
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever
They also did their own spin on a bunch of holiday classics in Relient K style. And Excellent album on the whole!

Last fall saw the release of their latest album: "Mmhmm." It came along with the departure of their bass player, who left to start his own landscaping business. Don't ask how I know that. Anyway, this album is once again full of great Relient K songs, and features a mix of Piano into their style, which gives the album a new feel, with great songs like "The One I'm Waiting For," "Be My Escape." "Let It All Out" and "I So Hate Consequences." It's yet another strong effort by the band I consider one of the greatest bands ever alongside U2 and a few others.

Yessssss .... a RK thread. Specter you rock for making this thread!!

You forgot RK's LP's! For Christmas last year I got a Relient K LP called, "Five Iron Frenzy is Either Dead or Dying" and that was awesome. There was only like four songs, two on each side, and one was about cool kids buying records so they could look cool.
Their lyrics are simple but I don't know what it is, these guys can write some tight lyrics!

What's your top 5 fave songs out of all Relient K Albums?
Mine :: Getting Into You, High of 75, Softer to Me, Trademark, and Chapped Lips, Chap Stick, and things Like Chemistry

I can't find the LP's anywhere, not that I could play them.

I don't have a top 5 songs. haha. It's hard enough making my own mix CD of songs, let alone choosing only 5 songs. :)

:D totally understand. are you going to get to check out their "BE My Valentour" tour? When I moved to Seattle, I was expecting to see RK but never did get to see 'em and don't think I ever will see them here! Ah well ... I heard they rock live.

To get LP's, you gotta buy it on e-bay now I think.

I would whole heartly agree with how they can take you through the world's wacky surface and also into your soul and deep christian views. I love Relient K, I fell in love with them when I heard there was a punk band that didn't have to sing about sex, drugs, and didn't have to curse! Love em! They came through my area just last weekend...wasn't able to go :sadder: BUT I was helping out with a retreat so it's all good.

Okay, I am terrible vinyl owner, the title of the 7" was, "The Vinyl Countdown", was distributed by Mono Vs Stereo and I can't remember the tracks listed on the CD since the record isn't with me [it's in Idaho, I'm in Seattle]. When I go home I solemnly swear to figure out how to get the songs from Vinyl to CD to ... uh ... wait, that would be hella hard; why don't I just send you a tape of it -- that's easier. **This is all if you all wanna check out this record; there was only 100 of them sold in the US!!**
But this will be in about a week before Easter.
So anyone who would like a lovely tape from me as an Easter present of Relient K's "The Vinyl Countdown" I would be more than happy to send you one!

:dj: vinyl rocks!

Whoa! That'd be awesome! Absolutely AWESOME!

I'd much appreciate it!

I might be able to transfer the tape onto CD, with the help of my friend Scott's insane computer stuff.

alright -- sounds good. I'll send you a message when I make the tape so I know where to send the tape to.
Pax!

Relient K rocks my socks! I've been a fan for quite a while also...their music can be so random and hilarious at times, but then be serious and deep. Soo awesome. Yeah, I actually missed a chance to go see them in the Dallas area last weekend...my friend had an extra ticket! Too bad that didn't work out..especially since he got to meet them afterwards and get autographs! Sigh...such is life.
I have this crazy dream of starting my own band and making it be like a girl version of Relient K! I've been working on some songs lately, and I really like their variety and sound, so that's sorta what I'm aiming for. Who knows... Well, its great to see some other RK fans here... God bless! ^_^

Through Him,
Rebecca

I've been a fan of Relient K for a while. I've always been curious though about the lyrics in "Failure to Excommunicate" from the album "Anatomy of tongue in cheek"
I like all of them except when they say, "As long as there's a heaven, there'll be a failure to excommunicate." I wasn't sure if I was the only one that found that kind of offensive?

Peace,
Caroline

Caroline, that song I have always wondered about myself. Until we get a straight answer from the band, we'll probably never know.

I, however, explain it as not a slam on the Church, but rather on judgemental attitudes.
