Ziggamafu Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 In order to be in keeping with all the traditions, apparitions, and history surrounding it, does the rosary have to be of a specific design? I know when it comes down to it, all you need is a way of keeping track of the prayers but I want to know if the indulgences and sacramental nature of the rosary require, for instance, Mary to be on the centerpiece or the crucifix to have a corpus.
Cam42 Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005
does the rosary have to be of a specific design?
Nope. While there is a basic standard today, one can still find rosaries that don't follow the basic standard. For instance, I have a Soldier's ring that I have had in my DOP kit (travelling) for years. While not a Catholic site, it is informative. Various styles of the rosary God Bless, Cam42
argent_paladin Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Pre-Trent religious orders have different types of rosaries than the modern version. The Dominican rosary has only one bead, instead of the standard three at the beginning. The rosary is a supple instrument of prayer and is always undergoing changes.
