littleflower+JMJ Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 I am being continually mistaken for a high school student by staff and students, when I am, in fact, the substitute teacher? i even tried dressing like im older lol it didn't work.... -_- and thats not even it! the jr. high kids thought I was their age the first day i was there lol they are, however, surprised that i can hold down the freshman as wild as they are anyways i think i might just give up
theculturewarrior Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 BTW, you are young. When you get to be 27 or 28 everybody younger than 23 looks like their in High School. Age is a relative concept.
Lil Red Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 hugs! i'm the same way. i often get mistaken for my high school students....i have tried dressing more professionally, and that usually does the trick....hugs and prayers...it can be very trying on your patience, i know.
theculturewarrior Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Sometimes I get confused for our transient patrons. People ask, "do you work here?" Now that's embarassing. (If I had any sense of self respect which you all know I don't. )
yeah i try very hard to dress professionally because that i know is the one thing that distinguishes me from them... it doesnt happen at my parish--since everyone knows i graduated 2 years ago lol but its the new teachers are the school... they walk right past me, (especially the coaches :club), into the room, demanding to know where the sub is--when im standing right there behind them and they just walked past me lol yes, patience....patience i need lol
Ash Wednesday Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Start smoking, average about 5 hours of sleep at night, and tan in a tanning bed so much your skin is a leathery shoe. That'll do the trick.
littleflower+JMJ Posted February 20, 2005 Author Posted February 20, 2005
I think you look about 20.
i think its because im so short.......some of the jr. high kids are taller than me they made fun of me after they saw i couldn't reach the floor in the teachers desk

Thy Geekdom Come Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Don't give up. God has plans for you...you know...if you look like them, then they'll be more likely to consider you one of them...it could work to your advantage.
yeah your right because i see this alot. the kids listen to me the first time, while they act up really bad with the other subs. i always end up writing nothing but good stuff on the reports. it also helps that i know all the juniors and seniors since they were freshmen and sophomores when i was a senior  makes it fun when they have to call me miss
Ash Wednesday Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Seriously you probably could use youth on your side like Ralphie said. I think that's why my university students get along with me, because they are about 21 and I'm 28. I have to keep a certain level of professionalism but at times I let my guard down a little and can establish a rapport almost like I'm a student myself. But not quite. But I think it helps because they tend to not feel like I'm just a "big grownup" out of touch with them. And, teaching will age you plenty anyway.
