Catholictothecore Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 For me, priesthood is like...a gut feeling. I know that's not the way God usually works, but I just know. Especially the Mendicant orders. FRANCISCANS! CARMELITES! DOMINICANS! WHICH ONE? GAH! Tht is, I think I hae a gut feeling. To tell the turth, I don't even remember if i've posted in this thread before!
corban711 Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 TCW peace be with you! wow! i had no idea from your posts!!! i think it is awesome that you are really doing your best to discern this carefully! but i just want to remind you of something of which you probably already know. when you discern, really try to discern from your heart as well as your head. look at those things you love, and your desires. but most of all, do this by spending much time in silent adoration. just sit quietly before Jesus, lovingly gazing upon Him and allow Him to give you the desires for whatever kind of life He wants you to have. it may be in fact true and reasonable that you may not be able to be a priest in your diocese, but I do believe there would be some religious orders that may take you as a religious brother. this way, you could live a very simple life of love, bound to Jesus through vows in a community where you would have good support in a family like atmosphere. there also may not be a problem with marriage, depending on how severe your case it, the women involved, etc. i will pray for your discernment with all these things. entrust your discernment to Mary and I know that she will lead you in what to do.
theculturewarrior Posted February 21, 2005 Author Posted February 21, 2005 Thanks for the advice, all! Norseman, I hadn't considered what it would like to be 50 and single. That kind of puts things in perspective. Sanvean, thanks for reminding me that psychiatry still has flaws and warts. The field has done a lot for me personally, but I know it's still as much of an art as anything. Corban, thanks for opening my mind to the possibilities. That's awesome. I think I need to take my blinders off. Just for the record, mental illness is not the kiss of death, as far as romance goes. Most women see me as a stable guy. When I tell my story, I usually get one of two responses, I get their story, which just as often involves severe mental illness, or some kind of trauma, or I get a hug. A lot has to do with how you tell someone. People know when you're ready for a relationship and when your not. Sometimes these things add depth and character to how you are perceived.
azaelia Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Good observations. But I think you're forgetting one thing... God can do anything. If you're meant to marry, you will have the grace to deal with the trials that accompany the married life. Your wife will have the grace to deal with you, and vice versa. Just put it in God's hands. And keep this in mind...my dad was 33 before he met my mom. Also, a good friend of mine had decided to take the vow of celibacy and live a single life no more than a few days before she met her husband, who she married a year later. So don't give up hope, yet. God has a plan, whether it be for the single or married life. So don't shut out either. And as for your apartment...the woman will quickly fix that.

azaelia Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005
Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.
No, in a good way. Hey, you might marry a girl who enjoys ordered chaos.
theculturewarrior Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005
No, in a good way. Hey, you might marry a girl who enjoys ordered chaos. theculturewarrior Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 You're so predictable. I need spontaneity. (if that's a word. )

let_go_let_God Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 TCW, anything in God's hands is possible, and praise God for how you are discerning. In my personal opinion I would just take the time and see where God leads you. And yes there are women who enjoy ordered chaos, example, myself, I am messier than my boyfriend. God will take you where he needs you. God bless and prayers- LGLG
Catholictothecore Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 Grace and Peace to you through Jesus, TCW!
Cathurian Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 Prayers for you! For your mental illness and for your discernment.
Jazz4jesus Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005
Yeah...but I've seen you phatmassing with other guys. -_- I mean, I did give Specter permission to phatmass with you. theculturewarrior Posted February 23, 2005 Author Posted February 23, 2005
She can hang out with whoever she wants.
The Vestal Virgins didn't tell Venus who she could hang out with...they just told the Romans who could approach the goddess. But yeah, I have less influence than a Vestal Virgin. -_-
