Robbi Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Hello all, First i want to apologise if this is in the wrong forum. Im going to a discussion night at our Parish in regards to issues that are facing our youth and the Catholic Church today. I would like to see what other peoples views are out there regarding this topic. Since im 27, I may be a bit out of touch of whats happening in the younger people today. One main issue I know is abortion, and the amount of young teenage pregnancies. I would love to hear from others. Thankyou. Rob
Lil Red Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 i know several issues facing my youth: -the prevelance of attacking Catholicism from their peers -the prevelance of parties, drugs, alcohol and sex (including the fact that some teens don't see oral sex as sex)
journeyman Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 My eldest son's problem with the church is orthodoxy - or lack thereof My most recently confirmed son - why keep going? I have to admit I haven't heard any of our kids mention the "Clinton" defense
jezic Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 issues i think are prevalent -how to react to gay people -where does the doctrine assign of cut-off with being gay -why does apostalic succession give the pope a right to tell me what to do -why is Mass boring -what does being saved mean -is leaving the church wrong -why do we need to ask a priest for forgiveness -the difference between eastern orthodox and eastern rite Among others but these are the most prevalent. there are many catholic teens who have never heard or thought about most of this stuff.
Robbi Posted February 22, 2005 Author Posted February 22, 2005 Thats all super -thanks everyone Im researching alot of those topics now for the discussion. I welcome anymore comments.
phatcatholic Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Issue #1 for teens and young adults: CHASTITY it is no coincidence that JPII's Theology of the Body is such a wave sweeping the Church, it is the very thing our youth needed the most.......
jiyoung Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 i think some of the biggest issues are ignorance and apathy. ignorance isn't as bad, but apathy...very little can remedy that.
Cam42 Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005
Issue #1 for teens and young adults: CHASTITY
Absolutely....Phatcatholic has it on the money. Cam42
