Dj 86 Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 I feel your pain. I listen to alot of 60'/early 70's funk and jazz music. When I buy albums, the person selling them usually looks at me like I have 3 heads lol. I usually get the "why is this white guy buying all these funk albums" look.
Seatbelt Blue Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Oh, I'm the same way. The trick is finding modern artists with the same mentality. I recommend Ben Harper, the Apples in Stereo, and the Polyphonic Spree.
Guest Eremite Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 (edited) My brother listens to a lot of that old school motown stuff. I drew the line when he popped Billie Holiday in the cd player. A man can only take so much... Edited February 25, 2005 by Eremite
Socrates Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Hendrix! Stones! Led Zep! Floyd! A lot of that old classic rock rules!
Matthew Buchanan Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Me too! I am still 100% hippy, just no drugs. (Except coffee) because I never sleep enough. I was big into the Grateful Dead and I still dig some of their stuff. I still do the whole nature thing, and I still love to drum. (djembe, conga, doumbek, ashiko, etc.) My neighbors probably think I'm a little loco for sure. I like alot of folk music too, and a little reggae. I like all music, but the hippy vibe, I'm down with that. I guess we are christian hippies (chrippies)! The stuff I'm workin' on now is a bit reminiscent of that ole' vibe. avalia Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Nothin' wrong with admitting you dig that kind of music! Classic never goes out of style! You only have a problem when you start lovin' the eighties... Like me.... Completly hopeless - went to see Journey two years ago....
bookwyrm Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005
Hendrix! Stones! Led Zep! Floyd! A lot of that old classic rock rules!
Too true.
sweetpea316 Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Hehe... I know what you mean. I grew up listening to all the oldies (but goodies!) on the radio and stuff. Whenever I hear a song, I'll know all the words and people will think I'm pathetic. They just wish they were this cool...
crusader1234 Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 I own most of those band's CDs and I've seen about half of them in concert. I don't feel your pain - I share your joy! Although I'm a little bit obsessive about Bob Dylan.
sweetpea316 Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005
I don't feel your pain - I share your joy!
Good point!
Matthew Buchanan Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 Avalea, Journey is one of the few cool bands that raged in the 80's. They still had that rock'n'roll vibe, and not all new wavey like Kajagoogoo. Don't ask me why they came to mind. You'll never forget a bad haircut like that dudes.
SevenSorrows Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 Three dog night?????? *singing*...Jeremiah was a bullfrog...
Matthew Buchanan Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 Crusader, Bob Dylan is truly the king of that vibe. Especially back in his earlier folk days. Undoubtedly some of the best songwriting ever!

Matthew Buchanan Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 U2, now I'll by that for a dollar. One of the best rock'n'roll bands of the 20th century. Not much for their new stuff though. Stevie Ray goes without saying. Great bluesman! Hey, you've got me remembering some good stuff. I'm still a child of the seventies though. Best rock'n'roll ever, for me, will always be found in the late 60's early 70's. The Guess Who, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and young, Marshall Tucker band, PINK FLOYD (I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan), Lynard Skynard, Oh my, this list could go on and on........

davefromcm Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 If you guys like the old stuff, check out our remake of Carry On Wayward Son by Critical Mass off of the album, "Grasping for Hope in the Darkness"! We even incorporated a bit of rap into the song to give it a different sound. There is a sample of the song on www.Catholicmusicnetwork.com
aloha918 Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 nothing wrong with it there is something wrong with the people that dont see the beauty in that stuff...........
ThornGenX Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I tend to be "stuck in the 80s" myself. During the 80s, I was really picky about genre, now I rarely hear an 80s song I don't like (even the "one hit wonders" and those songs VH1 calls "most awsomely awful").
