Fides_et_Ratio Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Only this time it wasn't me! So, someone recommended a group to my youth minister that reaches out to those with AIDS, etc. So my youth minister calls up the guy in charge, and sets up some stuff (cards, food, etc.), and then the guy gives her their website to check out... and then she sends it to me. He's the head of the "Reformed Catholic Church"... their clergy can celebrate any liturgy they want (roman rite, byzantine, anglican, lutheran, etc. )... and ANYONE can be ordained--including women, and homosexuals (and they are free to date and get married, or have "unions"). Anyhow, I noticed that one of their "tenets of faith" was that they held the entirety of the Scriptures to be true and without error... I so I e-mailed (just to see how deep the heresy was...) the portion regarding homosexuality from their website, and then a few verses from Leviticus and one from Romans in regards to homosexuality. He e-mailed me back all about how Jesus died for all, etc., etc. , so I e-mailed him back and said I completely agreed with the veres he replied with, however they didn't address my question (which was how they reconciled these two beliefs), and he e-mailed me back claiming the OT laws are disregarded, and Paul's letter was intended for a certain time and context. ANYHOW, they also claim a different line of Apostolic Succession... the "Old Catholic Church"?!? I think it may have some roots in the Netherlands, but I have to confess I don't know much about it, and was hoping to find some more information about it, before I keep e-mailing. They are not antagonistic towards the "Roman Church" (as he calls it), nor the Holy Father (and he referred to him as such!), but said that they do not recognize his "universal jurisdiction". Any info. anyone has would be mucho helpful! ALSO-- they have "open communion" (i.e., anyone can receive) normally, this wouldn't bother me, but the guy in charge of this church is/was a jesuit... thus, if he celebrates the Mass according to the Roman rite... is he truly consecrating the Eucharist? (He claims to believe in it...) So this was a concern of mine. If anyone wants to see the e-mails for more info, I can post them, just ask (I just didn't want to make the topic forever long!)

Fides_et_Ratio Posted February 25, 2005 Author Posted February 25, 2005 Thanks, phat, except, they aren't exactly "Old Catholics".. they just borrow a few things from them (i.e., "appearances") in most other respects, they seem to be Protestant... This is their website: (here)
phatcatholic Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 give me a break "catholics" like this really piss me off......
argent_paladin Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 Maybe their patron saint is the heretical antipope John XXIII of the 15th century. That would be a fitting saint for a schismatic group like them.
