Dudette Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I recently started listening to their songs more. I heard that they are a Christian band and by some of the songs I've listened to they seem to be. What are you thoughts about them?
corban711 Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 they have a few songs that i like a lot! and with TCW being their singer and all....hehe jk
Dudette Posted March 4, 2005 Author Posted March 4, 2005 hahahahahahahahaha. I like some of their songs a lot too.
corban711 Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 i am actually listening to "this is your life" right now! i love this song. i also like "dare you to move" a lot.
Dudette Posted March 4, 2005 Author Posted March 4, 2005 I'm listening to "Loser" right now, I'm like addicted to it.
DemonSlayer Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 The disappointing thing is that they've started to be marketed as a band who write songs about surfing instead of God.
melporcristo Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005
The disappointing thing is that they've started to be marketed as a band who write songs about surfing instead of God.
surfing?? what?? Thats really sad. I just remember back in the day when they came out with their first CD "THe Ledgend of Chin" they had a song out in secular radio too called Chem 6a which was totally rockin. And then the next year, like 1998, they came to Idaho Falls on tour and I was in my "too cool for Christianity" phase so I didn't see them ... now I feel stupid for not seeing them live.
DemonSlayer Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 They actually said that in a few interviews, that their music is all about surfing.
jiyoung Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 i feel like they're selling out. if i was a Christian musician i wouldn't want to be on mtv. yuck.
stargirl3:16 Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I really like their songs, especially "Meant to Live".
that is sad, but some of their songs do have a Christian meaning and they do mention God.
aloha918 Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005
i feel like they're selling out. if i was a Christian musician i wouldn't want to be on mtv. yuck.
they arent that proud about it...... i have been to a show of theirs and the lead singer was like......this song means a lot more than MTV could ever do to it......it was ment to live they are a good band that hides the "preachy" side of christian music.....and i like that about them because i am not a big fan of most christian music.............
bandmn54 Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 The fact is that they use one of the most amazing Christian producers in CCM music, Charlie Peacock. Buy anything that he's produced. He's good enough to be a seculiar producer when most have a long shot. They used to be an outwardly Christian band, but they have decided to move to the seculiar route. I understand that they won't play Christian venues anymore, and you will rarely, if ever, here them mention God on stage anymore. They are sellouts, but they do make good music.
Theoketos Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 They use their talents to glorify God. I think that they live out the Lay vocation really well. Songs need not be about God to please God. And while there are not nuetrally moral acts, I think that any clean band nowadays is a good band. They are smokin hot
melporcristo Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 yup they are hot ... not in the "cute" way either, just music wise -- promise! My favorite song is "Let That Be Enough" in their New Way to Be Human CD good good song! <3 Mel
Matthew Buchanan Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 I think calling them sellouts is a little strong and even judgemental. The christian element is all through their music. Just because it isn't "Jesus loves me yes I know", type of stuff doesn't make it bad or sold out. They make music for a living. Everyone has to have a job. They make great music to boot. Their music is colored by their faith, and hey, maybe even their love for surfing. Last time I checked, surfin' wasn't a sin. St. Francis said "preach often, if necessary, use words" Sometimes the best thing you can do with your faith is just be the best christian you can be without at whatever you do. Some feel led to music as ministry, like myself, but even I, want to write music all can relate to. We have to beware of the "leaven of the pharisees" when we look upon others. You see they like to be noticed when they fasted, and prayed in open for the attention of others. Maybe Mtv could use a fresh dose of clean music, and meanwhile, these guys will meet people they never would have met had they been categorized as christian music. Maybe their fans, as fans often do will take the time to learn about them, and in so learning, find faith alive in them. On my website there is a testify page. One fan of mine took the time to write her story there, and it is truly inspiring. She was a cradle catholic, that lost faith, and through some tough circumstances, and the music of none other than Switchfoot, she had a profound conversion experience that changed her life. Check it out "Her Story"
