Lil Red
Yeah, clothes are definitely more of an issue!!! You know what bothers me, though? The names of all the colognes and designer perfumes. It's so frustrating, cause it might smell so good and have a name like Seduction or Obsession or something. I hate that. It's like an immediate turn off...I know that's off topic, but it just bugs me! I stick to fruity sprays...they're safe and fresh scented!
yeah, i feel ya on that...it's like, i don't need my perfume to have "seductive" names for me to use them

Tink
Priests are people, too! Sometimes it's hard to tell because I know Old Spice has some really yummy smelling deodorants  (It's sad that I can tell instantly when I a guy in wearing it) and things like that. Priests take a vow of celibacy, but no one said anything about a vow of stinkiness! Edited March 7, 2005 by Tink

cmotherofpirl
As for your 2nd question, at least with the deodorants I've come across, even the best-smelling ones have a scent that makes it obvious that it's deodorant and not cologne. As for your first question, well ... this priest acted rather effeminately what with the way he talked, certain mannerisms, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if he was gay. So if he is in fact gay, then to me his wearing of cologne could possibly give people the wrong idea.
So you think someone who doesn't meet your standards of masculinity shouldn't wear cologne in case we might decide he is a homosexual? just a tad judgemental ?
Yeah, thats what I was thinking... along with Red's coment about some deodorants smelling really good and like cologne. I LOVE the way Old Spice Red Zone smells but it doesn't work for Matt so he won't wear it (for which I am thankful, I'd rather have him use deodorant that works than deodorant that I like the smell of that still lets BO come through. lol). My brothers wear it and they smell really good even when they don't wear cologne.
Honour
I think its cultural, like were I grew up men didn't really wear colonge, so I definately take notice when guys walk buy smelling good, so I can definately understand where your coming from. I have to refrain myself from telling strangers they smell good. See how bad that sounds? Take the AXE commercials, the whole point is that women are being attracted to METAL, not even MEN, that smell good. One problem is that smell as they say is that smell the strongest sense tied to memory, so just think what your colonge may be doing to womens minds, if their boyfreind, husband, etc had a similar sent. Personally I'm glad my husband only wears it when we go out together....specail treat all for me! Personally I think its different for women, I wear perfume sometimes at work and when I go out because its more culturly acceptable to me for women to always smell nice. But I like body sprays b/c they are lighter and not so overpowering. Thats my two cents
No, you're totally missing the point. You know what they say assuming does, don't you? At any rate, cologne is usually associated with attracting others, at least if those cologne commercials are any indication, although it seems now that, judging from the other responses, that's not necessarily the case. Actually, I'd have felt the same way if the priest was straight. But considering what others have said, I think I'll be changing my position. Norseman82
I'm going to approach this from a different angle. Some people have allergic reactions to perfumes/colognes. I had a former co-worker who often had to leave early and work from home if someone who reeked of smoke or perfume was around. Someone at mass might have such an allergic condition.
