littleflower+JMJ Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 mostly christian but still a big help..... http://www.nextwavefaithful.com/positive_music1.asp what do you think of the matchups?
God Conquers Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 cool site... I dunno about some of the matchups but whatever, it's good generally i guess.
sweetpea316 Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 That is pretty cool! The matchups aren't too shabby either.
ATF90 Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 I don't think the matches are exactly correct but close in ways.
SevenSorrows Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 It is cool that someone made the list, but the matchups (at least in the punk/hardcore section) were off. It is like they would take a cool awesome band...and then team them up with a band that is about 1/2 as good. So I would feel pretty bummed out if I was trying to find "alternative" bands to listen to instead of the mainstream. Their are soooo many cool hardcore christian bands...but only zao and living sacrifice were listed (and they aren't cool anymore...but they were 5 years ago).
melporcristo Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 The matchups are okay -- but I like this for youth groups since some kids are always looking for new music. There is a poster we had in a Presbyterian Y.G. I helped with that had a chart similar to this ... but more extensive and pretty close to comparing secular to positive bands. Since you really have to like the music and listen to it to be able to compare who sounds like who, maybe we could make our own comparision chart? Just a thought ... Pax, Mel
Guest Eremite Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 (edited) hmmmm... I don't like presenting Christian artists as "counterparts" to secular artists. Let the artists stand on their own right. Just indicate the genre. Juvenile and ManCHILD? What the heck is similar between the two? Edited March 8, 2005 by Eremite
littleflower+JMJ Posted March 8, 2005 Author Posted March 8, 2005 yeah some of them were really off lol mel--that would be a sweet idea
melporcristo Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 well right now I am listening to Mourning September who are like --->> Hoobastank And Juliana Theory totally could be mistaken for Simple Plan in vocals and some musical areas [although juliana theory is much much better than Simple Plan in progression] Calibretto 13 ... as I have always said sounds like a mix of Flogging Molly and The Violent Femmes I could go on forever but wish to yeild for those who wanna add some more insite Pax, MeL
DemonSlayer Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 There's also a page like this for metal bands as well.
rufiokicks Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Seeing Five Iron Frenzy so many times in the Ska section makes me sad. I miss them; I can't believe they broke up.
melporcristo Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005
Seeing Five Iron Frenzy so many times in the Ska section makes me sad. I miss them; I can't believe they broke up.
i know ... I miss FIF too. Hey, welcome back rufiokicks!
God Conquers Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 So sad... I saw their last show in Canada... predictably playing Oh Canada.... but it was SOOO good. Check out Brave Saint Saturn, it's most of the FIF members and they rock hard.
melporcristo Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Brave Saint Saturn is awesome ... good stuff. I don't mind Roper either -- I mean it is all Reece and most think, "Hey it's Five Iron Frenzy!" But its not ... nothing will ever compare to the beautiful sound of the awesome horn section **sigh** i wanna be in a ska/punk band!! <3 Mel
