Azriel Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Ok, so I'm still feeling pretty poorly, although there are moments of great hope. As I fight the overwhelming anxiety, I vascilate between great hope and great despair as to the pointlessness of it all. Great, huh? So, I'm curious, how do you view the world? Are you optimistic or pessimistic? Do you see all bad? Or can you see good too? Ugh. I'm just tired of thinking.
Azriel Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 I figured the taco option would get at least one vote.
franciscanheart Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 now its got four! mwahahahahaha. no but seriously some days im really optimistic about things and others im totally in the dumps. and even still that can change hour to hour or minute to minute. *looks for her meds* but the doctor says im doing okay so no big deal right? *takes meds* but God is good and life is good and gosh I love pickles and with pickles galore who could be sad?!?!?! okay no seriously now.... i really do go back and forth between the two but i think the biggest lesson i have learned so far is not to really be either. i am one of the people who sees things for how they really are and what ive had to learn to do is just let things slide. if i get too hyped up about stuff and what might happen in the future or worry too much about the past then i do end up getting a really pessimistic outlook on life. anyway.... let things sssssssssssssslide. and youll be just fine. oh yeah.... and keep those eyes on Jesus!! :thumb:
Theoketos Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 I do not define my person hood in such qualitative terms, and though we can never know happiness in this life, I believe the universe is just.
Lil Red Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 an optimist believes this is the best of all worlds. a pessimist fears the same is true.
Azriel Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005
an optimist believes this is the best of all worlds. a pessimist fears the same is true.
Amen. Question 2 - While it is not reasonable to assume that we can have absolute happiness in this world ... is it reasonable to assume that we can experience joy? God does want us to joyfully live the life we've been given, doesn't he?

corban711 Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 peace be with you! i consider myself to be a "realistic optimist". some optimists just will not see bad...everythings okay. that is definitely not me. but i am an optimist in that i can see in every single person, event, etc. even evil things, the opportunity for God's Mercy to bring about hope and a beautiful transformation. i have absolute confidence that He is in control and that He will never leave one of His children whom He loves abandoned. and i believe that God will never allow something evil to happen in which He cannot bring about a greater good than if that evil never happened. He desires to help us. so i tend to see the brighter side of things, because even if we must wait for Him to act in our trials, He is still the Lord of heaven and earth and the God of Mercy and His Merciful Love is worth the wait. Jesus I trust in You. Q.2---remember that Our Lady of Lourdes told St. Bernadette that she could not promise her total happiness in this life. but, at the same time, God does promise that we can live a life of total interior joy through loving Him and becoming saints. this doesn't mean that everything will be all nice and happy for us...but that we will have an interior joy of knowing that what happens comes from God and He knows whats best for His children. i have found that trying to thank Him for all things, to REALLY thank Him for things even when they are not going so great, brings a lot of interior joy Our Lady, Cause of our Joy, pray for us!
Nicole8223 Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Jesus Christ, truly present in the Eucharist An all-loving, all-merciful God A Mother who loves us like no one else can And a Church that is a powerhouse of truth What do we have to be pessimistic about???
Azriel Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 Not that I'm deliberately trying to be pessimistic, Nicole, but. .. when you doubt, when you are in crisis, and when you are in the "dark night of the soul" it is hard to trust, hard to believe. Hard to remember all of those things, even if you repeat them over and over.
Nicole8223 Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 I totally agree. Sorry, I think I came across in the wrong way. I was just saying there are many reasons to be happy. I didn't mean to offend anyone. But, those are some reasons why I choose to smile PS...Dark Night of the Soul is no fun, I've been there, but there are still many reasons to smile! never forget that!!!
Azriel Posted March 10, 2005 Author Posted March 10, 2005 oh please don't feel bad, you didn't offend. I've been having some bad bad anxiety, so if you would pray I'd appreciate it.
Nicole8223 Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 You got it. Persevere. I read in the Imitation of Mary that persevering in the hard times is the secret to being a saint. Your only one step away from great virtue...continue on, and you have my prayers!
MichaelFilo Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 (edited) You have my prayer. Nicole, let me take this oppertunity to say it's nice to have someone as kind and well-intentioned as you on Phatmass. I'm regularly a pessimist, but I've been quite the optimist lately. I may even fail a class this nine weeks but I'm as happy as can be. I hav eno idea why. I love God. Anyways, you have my prayers, and daily Communion is a cure to anxiety that no medicine can provide. God bless, Mikey Edited March 10, 2005 by MichaelFilo
Azriel Posted March 10, 2005 Author Posted March 10, 2005 Thank you both and I second Mikey. It's great to have you here Nicole.
cmotherofpirl Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Every morning its a toss- up. Depends on the weather and the amount of sleep [or lack thereof] the night before.
