SevenSorrows Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Ok....so I'm going #2 (I know, too much information)...but anyway....I see the tag on my underwear says "Puritan".... how come we don't have a company called "Catholic" and everyone would have to wear "Catholic" on their tag all day. I am also a Kindergarten teacher and I have 3 boys named Christian in my class (all the other classes have 1 Christian)...but no boys named Catholic....hmmm never even heard of anyone being called Catholic..... so is it cause other religions/denominations are dumb and use their religion for household items/names...or are we as Catholics just behind on the times *thinking* hmmm...Cathy is short for Catholic (hahahaha..dare you to do it)

Better yet, probably during the Dark ages...ha....ha......ha (I'm rolling my eyes at myself and my ability to make amazingly cheesy jokes) Peace, Caroline
FranciscanRocker25 Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005
How'd everything come out? Okay?
Ha...
azaelia Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Well, the reason the company was called Puritan because it most likely originated in New England or somewhere around there. And Catholic is like an adjective for Christianity. Catholic Christianity which is basically "universal Christianity". So calling your child Catholic would be like naming them Purple or Round.

1337 k4th0l1x0r Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Isn't Puritan the Wal-Mart brand? I'm pretty sure I have some Puritan underwear too.
lilac_angel Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 One definition of puritan is: a person excessively concerned about propriety and decorum So maybe they don't mean the actual religion....possibly. Maybe they just want to market the underwear as if only the best of the best realize how great it is...?

cathoholic Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 (edited) Something I've learned as a philosopher in training is that good thoughts do not usually flow as well when you defocate, that's why most people read. It is easier to intake wisdom when excreeding that which you don't need than to provide it... it's like a double negative. Besides, when I think about "Catholic" I think of great things like 1.1 Billion people gathering with the saints and angels during the Sunday liturgy as partakers in the transubstanciated bread and wine, not something my butcheeks rub against all day. "Catholic" is too great to be used as a garment or household item. Who would have thought all that could come from a though in the restroom... goes to show that "God deemed it better to bring good out of evil than not to allow it at all"- St. Thomas Aquinas I know I exagerate by comparing excrement to evil but I had to find a way to somehow sneek inn that quote I love so much. I think I've done my damage here, Deus Beet and Behave. Edited March 9, 2005 by cathoholic
