A few weeks back, i got a "prayer rug" from St. Matthew's Churches. I sent it back as well with a letter of my disaproval. Now, they sent me a book with all these fake stories of people getting rich by sending them money for prayers. here is a page from it -

Its sick. they are using a beautiful thing to lure people into giving them money. They are turning Jesus into a magician. I pray for them, that they may see their errors -_-

It's a recognized scam. Do a search for St. Matthew churches. The telltale sign is the return address being a P.O. box to send the check or cash to.

Here are a few links with some details:

I looked at it. Although it looks like they are celebrating a Catholic mass, if you read more closely they are Protestant).

Crazy, I got one of those "prayer rugs" in the mail a couple of months ago. I don't know how they got my address; I NEVER get junk mail (except for credit card apps).

I read though it thoroughly, just rolling my eyes at what they're trying to do. Turning Christ into a magic talisman....its sad. :sadder: How many people fall for it? Then I threw it away.

"2121 Simony is defined as the buying or selling of spiritual things. To Simon the magician, who wanted to buy the spiritual power he saw at work in the apostles, St. Peter responded: "Your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain God's gift with money!" Peter thus held to the words of Jesus: "You received without pay, give without pay." It is impossible to appropriate to oneself spiritual goods and behave toward them as their owner or master, for they have their source in God. One can receive them only from him, without payment."

I got another letter. Part of it read -
"The Devil's people get their bills paid, fancy cars, houses, etc, so the children of God can have their bills paid too."
Sick.
