Businessman Offers $1 Million To Keep Woman On Life Support
Gloria Allred's Law Firm Holds Money In Trust Account

POSTED: 11:51 am PST March 10, 2005
UPDATED: 1:11 pm PST March 10, 2005

LOS ANGELES -- Attorney Gloria Allred said she would hold a news conference with one of her clients Thursday afternoon to make an announcement regarding the case of Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman whose feeding tube is scheduled to be removed on March 18.

Allred said the client is a businessman who has deposited $1 million into her law firm's trust account to offer Schiavo's husband, Michael, if he agrees to certain conditions to keep his comatose wife alive after the feeding tube is scheduled to be removed.

Meanwhile, the state of Florida is moving on two fronts to try to block the March 18 removal of the feeding tube keeping brain-damaged Terri Schiavo alive.

The Department of Children and Families wants to intervene in order to investigate allegations of abuse and neglect by the woman's husband. And in Tallahassee, Republican lawmakers crafted a bill requiring that Schiavo and other incapacitated people be afforded water and nutrition unless a living will directs otherwise.

The husband has a court order to stop her artificial feedings. A DCF attorney told a judge Wednesday that the court cannot impede an agency investigation. But the husband's attorney argued that the agency's last-minute attempt to intervene is politically motivated, especially because dozens of previous complaints to DCF have failed to yield any evidence of abuse.

The attorney told reporters that the agency is simply acting as an arm of Gov. Jeb Bush's office to try to undo a court order they don't like.

wow.... that is..... interesting.

I don't know how I feel about it.

Buying and selling someone's life....

If it saves her life, in this case, I'm all for it.

However, I don't think the jerk will take the deal. If he does then he runs the risk of admitting it was all for the money - and after all, we all know it's because of his high moral standards and his upright force of being in wanting to do the right thing because his beloved wife would not want to live a life on life-support....

The man is a fool. It would be the smartest thing he could ever do for himself and in particular for his family and Terri's if he just took the money and built a new secret life somewhere. Believe me, if he succeeds in his quest to murder his wife through compassion, his life won't be worth spit for the rest of his days. Not only will he and his concubine and their "love children" be social pariahs, but I don't doubt that some other high-minded compassionate person out there might not arrange an "unfortunate accident". People have "gotten sick" for less....

Wish they'd give us a hint of this "clear and compelling" evidence the judge has...

Tell us the clear and compelling evidence? Why? The reason we elect people is so that we don't have to worry about things outside of our homes; we make a selection, giving those who can handle the weight of intellectual responsability the job.

Give me an asprin! Oh, if it be God's will, to be able to preach to congress once in my life! To just unload at them all that I already want to say!

God help me to have love for them despite the screw ups all of us can become so very easily!

You know what I don't get, it's the fact that Terri laughs and cries, is not that human emotion. We had her parents over for a rosary party one night and they told us that she is just like any disabled person. I think they can still rececitate her if the law would give her to the parents. I have pickted many times infront of the clinic that's holding her and infront of the court house. It is a very sad thing to let someone suffer so much when those who love her would kindly take care of her for the rest of her life. May the peace and comfort of the lord be with terri and her parents and may Mr. Shiaevo(spelling?) be guided soon by the will of God. Amen
Peace and blessings

Bump because it's important that people be exposed to the true evil that occurs in our soceity so they may be able to spot it and stomp it out. (Terri's "husband" that is...)

Or pray for him, whichever is your style.

Why doesn't the man just let her parents take her??? He obviously doesn't care about being married. He just wants to be free of the burden of caring for Terri. This man's million dollars could pay for her treatment, even if the louse doesn't take it. Somebody needs to "talk some sense" into this guy.

I can see this setting a precedence though. Want to get rich quick? Get a euthanasia case in the news.

Still, I hope Terri's life is saved, by this or however. Lord have mercy on us!
