Nathan Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 Which Bible version(s) do you read? I mainly use the New Revised Standard Version: Catholic Edition -- Canada's official lectionary translation -- for private study, but I'm also quite partial to the Douay-Rheims Version and the Jerusalem Bible (beautiful translation) and dip into them often. I'm currently on the hunt for a good New American Bible. Best, Nathan
Paphnutius Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 I use the Catholic Study Bible, which is a NAB translation. My NT calss uses the Navarre Bible which I think is an RSV.
cmotherofpirl Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 Won't use the NAB, footnotes are less than desirable reading. St Ignatius Study Bible or the Navarrre Bible are the best .

[/quote] yes, i agree. i'm also not very fond of the NRSV, b/c of its inclusive language. purposefully mistranslating the bible so that it will fit into our modern sensibilities is just ......................wrong.
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 I mostly read the Douay-Rheims. Wish that the RSV-CE was online...
Robbi Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 My first bible was the New King James - only because I didnt know any better and had no idea about the differences in them. Also I have Quickverse on my computer with various different bibles in it, I use the NKJ version just for quick reference while im at work, since I cant find any Catholic bible software with commentaries at the moment. I have recently bought the Catholic RSV and still have to catch up on the other books that are missing from the Protestant bible.
