So my mom answers the phone the other day, and right away the caller says, "Can I ask you a question about Catholics??" Of course, my mom's a little taken aback, but she says, "Sure, what can I help you with?"

This guy goes on to explain that he's a Protestant, but he's been seeing all the news about Pope John Paul's funeral, and hearing news reports about his life. He's very impressed with how he forgave his assassin after the attack, but he was confused, "Why did he pray to Mary? Why didn't he just pray to Jesus and God?"

My mummy realized that this was a great moment for evangelization, but she was late for an appointment, so she gave him a short answer and promised to call him back tomorrow. But first she asked him why he called HER of all people, and how he knew that she was a Catholic.

The man explained that he wanted to know more about Catholicism, so he opened up the phone book and called the first Catholic church that he found - my parish, Holy Family. Once he called there, he got the voice mail system, and my mom's name was first on the list because she's the CCD director. When he called her office, he got her audix message that left our home phone number for emergency calls. :)

So my mom and I sat down that night and formulated and researched a very thourough answer for this guy, and she called him the next day and they talked for a looonnnggg time. Finally he says that what she said really made sense! He was so excited because he had all these questions about religion, and he just wasn't finding the answers from the Protestant churches. He promised to call her back with more questions..... I think he just might be on the path of conversion!! Pray for him!! :wub:

I am on the abcnews message board about the Pope and have found some Protestants who have never even known what Catholics believe and are quite interested and open. Something is happening here. God is working!

There is a natural attraction to the Catholic Church that those who have not been biased by anti-catholicism have. It I think is expressed in Isaiha.

[2] It shall come to pass in the latter days
that the mountain of the house of the LORD
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
and shall be raised above the hills;
and all the nations shall flow to it,
[3] and many peoples shall come, and say:
"Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
to the house of the God of Jacob;
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths."
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
[4] He shall judge between the nations,
and shall decide for many peoples;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more.
[5] O house of Jacob,
come, let us walk
in the light of the LORD.
[6] For thou hast rejected thy people,
the house of Jacob,
because they are full of diviners from the east
and of soothsayers like the Philistines,
and they strike hands with foreigners.
[7] Their land is filled with silver and gold,
and there is no end to their treasures;
their land is filled with horses,
and there is no end to their chariots.
[8] Their land is filled with idols;
they bow down to the work of their hands,
to what their own fingers have made.
[9] So man is humbled,
and men are brought low --
forgive them not!
[10] Enter into the rock,
and hide in the dust
from before the terror of the LORD,
and from the glory of his majesty.
[11] The haughty looks of man shall be brought low,
and the pride of men shall be humbled;
and the LORD alone will be exalted
in that day.
[12] For the LORD of hosts has a day
against all that is proud and lofty,
against all that is lifted up and high;
[13] against all the cedars of Lebanon,
lofty and lifted up;
and against all the oaks of Bashan;
[14] against all the high mountains,
and against all the lofty hills;

That's so awesome!!!! i'll be praying for him. :cool:

The other day i mentioned how I told my non-Catholic, non-denom. Prot. sister that the Pope was really sick and to pray for him, and she was like "uh-uh, oh ok", very nonchalant,

BUt, when he did die and I got together w/ her and her also non-denominational roomates, we talked of terri Schiavo again, and they all said how it was more than coincidental that the Pope died 2 days after Terri after he spoke about her. They all spoke respectfully of the Pope when i mentioned how it's sad to lose such agreat man......for them, this was avery good sign. :)

Awesome!

One of the people on EWTN actually said that there was some prophecy or some saint who said that he would do greater things after death than during his life.
