Catholic "Chick" Tracts

I apologize if this seems a bit weird but I am writing two papers simultaneously and neither are coming along the way I wanted, so I am a bit jaded.

Anyway, I am writing a paper on the misconception of attributing Mary as a divine Mother-goddess and my research led me to chick publications. I know he is, for lack of a better word, really out in left field, but it is a shame that tracts like that are not made by Catholics. You know it seems that we are more than eager to be ready to make that defense of the faith that is within us, but not as eager to go out to all the nations and bring that faith to them.

It is sad, in a way, because every religion is doing so much to Evangelize others, in some cases, Catholics out of the Church, and yet we are doing very little in the same effort. I know that the majority of what I have read, amongst apologists, is that they see this weakness coming from their local pastors and priests. Sadly, though, something they do not understand, is that priests do not have as much time as they did in the past. I am not talking about those that can't miss their favorite show, I mean those that are genuinely working for the salvation of others, but just don't have enough time in the day to do the extra that some apologists criticize them as not doing. Granted, they did encourage some apologetics from the pulpit, and that does plant a seed, but there has to be far more than just a few minutes of apologetics and a few other minutes with something else.

I don't know, it is a shame that someone does not put a comic book together on Catholicism for others the way these other religions seem to be doing. It was only when Christians and later Catholics found themselves in hostile pagan environments starting in the early 2nd century up to hostile Protestant and anti-Catholics that apologetics really flourished. If you look around the environment could not be more hostile, and yet where are all the apologists? I don't mean the famous "New Apologists," but the person that no one knows and does not think he or she has the capability to do apologetics.

It is high time we learn, and the first class must begin on our knees in front of Christ Himself, for our mission is to go out to the whole world and be ready to make a defense of that faith that is within us, but we cannot do that if we are running on reserves and don't seek to know He whose Church we are preparing to defend.

God Bless

Yeah, I was a little fried last night from writing that Marian Spirituality paper all night. I do apologize for my ramblings. On the plus side, I was able to get an extension on the first chapter of my MDiv, because realistically I was not going to be able to get it done by tonight.

Again, I apologize for the rambling.

There are plenty of Catholic Tracts out there. Catholic Answers makes a pack of 120 different Tracts, available here: http://shop.catholic.com/cgi-local/SoftCar...caca+1114124503

Also, Grotto Press makes a series of tracts dealing with various doctrine: http://www.grottopress.org/Tracts/tracts.html

Lastly, for more on Jack Chick and Chick Publications, see the Catholic Answers Special Report: The ightmare World of Jack Chick. That's available here: http://www.catholic.com/library/sr_chick_tracts_p1.asp

The difference, and a very big one at that, is that Chick lets his tracts go for 0.14 and $13.00 for a large sampling whereas Catholic Answers is letting them go at $35.00 for samples. Although, Grotto seems to be letting them go for $5.00.

I think when it comes to things as important as tracts you have to make them as inexpensive as possible. The goal is to get people to buy them so that they can distribute them widely, in my opinion, Catholic Answers is not providing that need.

Now, don't get me wrong, I make use of Catholic Answers often, I just think they need to be more sensitive to people's budgets if they want as wide or an even wider distribution of their products, the likes of Jack Chick

Just my .02

Actually, what do you have about the relationship between Apologetics and Evangelization. I read that one article in "This Rock" by Kreeft, but I am looking for things that make the connection even stronger than he did.

If you have anything at all, please send it my way.
