Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock Emo (short for emo-core, itself a contraction of "emotional hardcore", now usually an abbreviation of "emotional") is a term now broadly used to describe almost any form of guitar-driven alternative rock that expresses emotions beyond traditional punk's limited emotional palette of alienation and rage. It is also used to describe fans of this genre, most commonly teenagers. (e.g., "emo kid"). The actual term "emo" originated in the mid-1980s D.C. hardcore punk scene, with the band Rites of Spring. The term addressed both the way the band connected with its audience, as well as its tendency to deal more with topics of personal and relationship politics than with the standard themes of punk and hardcore music.

crusader1234 Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 Emo: When people take the lyrics, talent, and lead singer out of a punk band, and replace the lead singer with a hormonally unbalanced teenager that likes to whine about justabout everything - and then they let him write the music - you get EMO. ETA: Sometimes the music is actually good. Most of the time, though, it stinks.

Typical crappy teen poetry that somehow leaked it's disgusting filth into our radios. Basically the "Rock Version" of Country Music, in the sense that it all sounds the same, the "singer" puts on an unbearable, nasally, fake-sounding voice whilest all lyrics are just whines about some girl who left him. I take offense to some of yall definitions of this genre. lets look at the first posts, those are acurate definitions. Strong emotions. THose posters may not like emo but least they gave true definitions. Some of the recent posts were from Emo Haters, lets stop hating. as far as i know about fashion something about thick frame glasses. i dont know. I never payed attention to fashions of music. I actually like Dashboard Confessional though.
