we used to have those birthday parties at skating rinks. they were so much fun. we'd get a DJ and request nsync over and over again then fall and laugh at eachother.

In the words of Napoleon, "Heck yes I did!"

If you were a teenager/kid in the 70s or 80s like me, then chances are, you roller skated.

My skates looked a little more like Raquel's. They were the somewhat arcane kind you tied to your own shoes.

We used to watch roller derby on TV.

When I was in college a fellow Gen X-er and I were working on this drawing in class. We drew a roller derby with Daisy Duke skating and the General Lee flying over the stadium. It was so corny compared to everyone else's drawings and we got in trouble for laughing so much. :rotfl:

Andrea... you could be the friend that I always went skating with on Saturday mornings. Her name was Andrea as well. Strange coincidence. I had white skates with pink wheels like yours. My friends and I used to go to the Skate Connection every Saturday morning for the freeskate from 11-2. We played limbo on skates and the winner got a free ticket for pizza. Lunch consisted of pizza and pop and ice cream for desert. We did the hokeypokey on skates and so many other things. Wow. I had forgotted about all that. Memories  I used to look forward to Saturdays. Skating Saturdays lasted for 2 years...until I was in 4th grade.

Now, I can't even remember the last time I laced up a pair of roller skates.

Roller Skating rocked. I used to go about once a month and try to request Newsboys "Shine" to drive my best friend crazy. I don't go much anymore because of the nasty music they play now. I mean, it was already bad when they would play nsync and backstreet boys, but today man, that horrible stuff out there.

I used to love Roller Derby!!!

I know there were 2 different outfits.. one with the big team being the Los Angeles Thunderbirds as its major team, the other one had the San Francisco Bay Bombers as its major team

then the early 90s came the outfit with the T-birds was rehashsed and called "Rollergames" and they had this figure 8 track with Jumps, a wall they skated up for points (which Mr Mean of the Violators "Fell" off).. and the gator pit. and dont forget the glam rock!

Ah man....good times...
We had a roller skating place in my town called the Texas Skatium, and that was the coolest place to go in middle school. I was there once last year, and it just wasn't the same though... but man, that was fun. I was never that great of a skater though. ^_^

I went roller skating for the first time in my life last year

it was awesome, and we did the hokey pokey...

I've actually been to the roller derby too! Back in the 80s.

I have absolutely no idea what the rules were but it was a hoot!!!
