Ash Wednesday Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 Wow, if ever I heard of something that would instigate interreligious cooperation FAST... They are seriously risking their lives. This is Jerusalem, not San Francisco.
Luthien Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 Lord have mercy, they're obviously too foolish to know what this could amount to.

I don't think a muslim would enjoy reading that especially since we have one on our board.
toledo_jesus Posted April 17, 2005 Author Posted April 17, 2005 I think the Sheik in the article implied strong action. And while I am sensitive to religious differences, I do not care to edit my previous statement. Perhaps Muslims should examine the sort of punishments that go on over there.

Mohamedists have harsh punishments for crimes that are un-wicked (ie. bieng a Christian)
Yes but do Muslims control Jerusalem? What rules would they have against them? You seem to be implying radical Muslim Fanatics. BTW even it is an area with a lot of muslims, they won't neccisarily kill him. I compare your arguement with, "Oh no, they're making an Abortion Clinic near the Vatican. Do they really want to be bombed?" This is to an extreme but of course I'm sure you view all muslims in the Middle East as fanatical extremists.

Laugh with me. seriously though... Laugh with me

Laugh with me
I knew that your were being humurous in your first post, that's why I said, "I can see where your getting at". Your second post seemed a lil on the serious side though. I'm not going against you, I just dont think it's a good idea to post that publicly especially where a muslim can read it. In America, we usually don't care to use stuff like this as a joke but a lotta people are serious when they say stuff like that. That's why i got kinda ticked off when i saw it cuz even small things like this can be offensive. If I was Muslim, I'd understand but It's someone elses religion. It's the same as going on a prot forum where people joke about Priests and kids. You wouldn't go to an extreme like that I'm sure and I know you didn't mean bad by your comment and were just trying to let steam out in a positive way since Muslims, Jewish people, and Christians are all on the same side on this one. I totally could see that but I just dont think everyone will get it that way.
Ash Wednesday Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 I'll add what I meant by putting their lives at risk -- I'm talking about Islamic extremists of the terrorist sort. Heck, even of any religion. Jerusalem has been such a volatile place as it is, without the "Pride Parades." Advisors to the Pope himself didn't want him to visit there out of safety. I think they would be absolutely foolish and crazy to do this and not expect any danger. I fear it would cause utter chaos to a degree in which we have yet to see.
argent_paladin Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 Did you guys notice that the last International Gay Day was held in Rome, during the Jubilee Year 2000? I guess they needed to go somewhere where they could offend even more people. Maybe they will have the next one in Beijing?
toledo_jesus Posted April 17, 2005 Author Posted April 17, 2005 (edited) The last news I heard out of Jerusalem was that the Orthodox and the Franciscans were getting into street brawls over a procession. It's not exactly peaceful over there. I've always been of the opinion that if it makes people uncomfortable it's probably a little closer to the truth than they'd like to hear. Anyway, I understand musturde's point...but I'm not so sure it matters if everyone gets it. If somebody had started posting things like "yeah kill them all" or "Muslims are killers" I would have corrected them out of obligation. Nobody did that though, so I let my generalization stand on the merits that it appeared most people understood the non-literal current to the message.
This was humor? huh.gif
No, that post wasn't. The first post was humorous exaggeration, intended to lighten the mood because as everyone knows, certain Islamic countries are some of the few who still practice such things as stoning, cutting off of the hands, beheading, and the like. For a less inflammatory translation of what I meant, see Ash Wednesday's post. Edited April 17, 2005 by toledo_jesus

The majority of muslims aren't extremists which would make your comment the same as stereotyping Catholic priests by calling them all pedofiles "Why did you leave your kid at the priests residence, did you really want him to be molested?". Of course, everyone knows what that means (in its extremecy expanded for an example) but some people might get offended. I remember a thread about Christ Rock a while back joking about the Church. Everyone got mad even though none of it is even close to as serious as making it look like a whole group of people are bombers
