What do you think?

On the Pope-U-Lator quiz I got:

Francis Arinze
Posted

I got Arinze, too, followed by Cardinal Dias, Cardinal Shoenborn, Cardinal Pell, and Cardinal Ratzinger.

I'm surprised. When I first looked at that site, I was a little wary of it. But it actually looks very orthodox. It links to Priests for Life, New Advent, and Catholic Culture, among other sites.

This is from the disclaimer:
# you understand that the creators of this site hold our deceased Holy Father - Pope John Paul the Great - in the utmost reverence, we believe that the papacy was instituted by Christ, and we are consciously and fastidiously faithful to the Living Magisterium of the Church.
Haha.. I love all the "popery" out there right now.

VH1's "Best Week Ever" show had a segment about what would happen if they elected a teen pope. His dad said "son, you need to take out the garbage" and he said "You can't make me do that! I'm infallible!"

I actually caught it channel surfing and thought it was funny and didn't find it to be disrespectful. I don't usually watch the show and they do talk about some pretty disgusting things otherwise.

They gave the "who's having the best week ever" nod to Satan because there was no pope around at the moment to torment him. :rolling: So a media program sometimes does actually acknowlege that the papacy gives Satan grief... :rolling:

Ths is what i don't like about the website (kind of offensive to the more conservaitve of us):
Look. Why don't you people give up?

If you want a return to the bankrupt pseudo culture of the 50's, your dreams are unlikely to come true.

Certainly the next Pontiff will continue to guard and espouse the perpetual teaching of the Church. Meanwhile, the renewed liturgy, the intent of the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council, and the legitimate theological developments of the 20th Century will not be rescinded or denied. Nostalgists and reactionaries might never be quite satisfied with anything less than a total, wholesale, and official repudiation by the Magisterium of these things. Fortunately, such a thing is not possible.

For a conservative agenda, the choice is Pius XIII. For the next pontificate, this will not be the chosen name.

On the other hand, despite recently mongered calumnies against him, Pius XII was roundly viewed as a wise, brave and generous benefactor during and after wartime. There will be more Pope Pius', just not in the next Papacy.
this is what i like:
Look. Why don't you people give up?

If you want priestesses, gay marriage, contraception, abortion, euthanasia, a 4th person in the Divine Trinity or whatever floats your boat, just join a Protestant Church.

If you want to stick with plain old Christianity, you are going to have to face the fact that the Pope is the guardian of the Deposit of Faith. He can't just make up a new dogma when he feels like it. He can't ordain ladies, nor can he reverse the constant Church teaching against contraception and abortion. It's just not going to happen.

For a progressive name, the choice is John XXIV. John Paul II was actually the most "progressive" Pope in history, far more "progressive" than John XXIII. But, John XXIII is romanticized as some sort of liberal guy. If you take the time to read what he wrote, it will immediately become obvious to you that this notion is hooey.
"bankrupt pseudo-culture"?

If the 1950s were a bankrupt pseudo-culture, what about today? I would go back in an instant (well, except for the racism).

under their facts:

PopeFacts

There have been 27 Antipopes. The first was, remarkably, a saint! An antipope is "A false claimant of the Holy See in opposition to a pontiff canonically elected. At various times in the history of the Church illegal pretenders to the Papal Chair have arisen, and frequently exercised pontifical functions in defiance of the true occupant." -NewAdvent

anyone know if this is actually true?
