immaculata Posted May 9, 2005 Author Posted May 9, 2005 I actually use Paint Shop Pro. (I'd really like to have Photoshop!) For the Holy Spirit one, I added layers on top of the original image and then added the color with a paintbrush. By setting the layer properties to "Darken" I could get the color to just fill in where the white part and not to cover the black outline. For the Mary avatars, I cropped the picture to what I wanted and resized to 90x90. Then I Google Image searched for pictures.. the yellow and pink ones are roses, the blue one is a coffee cup. I cropped a 90x90 section of the yellow/pink/blue pictures, then pasted as a new layer on the Mary picture. Then I adjusted the layer properties so that you can see the Mary image... Confusing, huh?

immaculata Posted May 9, 2005 Author Posted May 9, 2005 Excellent! Yeah, I learned a lot just by messing around with the different settings and seeing what happens. I also subscribe to some icon communities on Live Journal, so I pick up ideas from other icon makers. Practice makes perfect!
