is it a mortal sin to donate money to a protestant church?

thanks

No. Not a sin at all. If they're serving a good cause, it's even a good thing. However, if you find out that the pastor's using the money to go around slaying poor innocent Catholics and putting them into Concentration camps then you'd have a problem.

I think it would depend on what they're using the money for. I'm not making a judgement because I don't know what the money will be used for, but I'd probably stay away from it(unless it's something pro-life). You can find Catholic orginazitions that need it. I would just be careful when donating to a Protestant church. Since they don't have the fullness of the Truth, we should be wary of things like that because they'll be using it to promote their version of the truth. But like I said....I don't know what the money will be used for. If it's something good, then go for it....but maybe look for a Catholic orginzation that's using money for the same thing and give it to them instead.

I would disagree, donateing money to the enemies of Christ is certianly a sin, the protestants are enemies of the Bride of Christ and there for of the Lord Himself. However a dollar is probably such an insignificant contrabutionas to be only a venial sin and not a mortal one.

More importantly why where you at Protestant service at all, I hope it is not a habit. Once in a while for a specific reason it is acceptable but not on a regular basis.

That seems very severe. Most are simply ignorant and trying very hard to follow Christ themselves. Many serve Him and accomplish things in His name.

How lovely for them, they persecute his Church, they persecute Him, those who know no better may not be culpable for the gravity of that sin, but still they commit it. Regardless the question came from a Catholic who asked about his donating money, while the protestant born so might not be culpable Catholics are and should not be giving money to the enemies of Christ.

so is it only proper to donate to explicitly Catholic organizations?

It is improper to donate to any organization which opposes the Church.

I think Catholic organizations are probably best, but I don't see any harm in donating to any cause that doesn't promote or support immoral activity, which of course includes working against the Church.

Speaking of which, I need to find somewhere a list of charities that support fetal stem cell research. It is hard when people spring a donation request on me to figure out what to do.

"49: John answered, "Master, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he does not follow with us."
50: But Jesus said to him, "Do not forbid him; for he that is not against you is for you."
---Luke 9:49-50

In light of this Scripture passage, can sincere Protestants really be called enemies of Christ?

oh oh more quoting games.

30 He that is not with me, is against me: and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth.

31 Therefore I say to you: Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but the blasphemy of the Spirit shall not be forgiven.

32 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but he that shall speak against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him neither in this world, nor in the world to come.

33 Either make the tree good and its fruit good: or make the tree evil, and its fruit evil. For by the fruit the tree is known.

34 O generation of vipers, how can you speak good things, whereas you are evil? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

35 A good man out of a good treasure bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of an evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

36 But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment.

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

mattew 30 -- 37

Yes I think we can, the Protestants make the tree( the Church) Evil yet wish good fruits( salvation), They where brought about by evil men and evil treasures( the reformers and the reformation) and the fruit of such an evil thing is it self Evil. To say otherwise is mere folly.
