Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 I want to ask him why their is only one indult Tridentine Mass in the Archdiocese and if he can make more. What should i say? sam
journeyman Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 How long did you want the letter to be? What you posted here certainly provides enough for a response. Ancillary issues you might raise Latin is good, why don't more parishes offer the Mass in Latin? That doesn't require an indult - the indult is for using the 1962 liturgical rite. Gregorian Chant is often overlooked - why doesn't the diocese sponsor some workshops for the music ministries - teaching them chant, teaching them how to teach chant and encouraging its spread back through the church (the Mass in Latin question you could raise with your parish priest - as I understand it, they don't need permission to say the Mass in Latin, it's just widely understood that the vernacular is permitted, and preferred by the laity . . . that opens the door to a discussion of the best use of the Church's resources . . . if your diocese has enough priests to spare to say a Mass no one attends . . . can your bishop send some priests to our bishop?)
corban711 Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 i know this wasn't the Tridentine Mass....but maybe you could approach it like this. you could say, that seeing the beautiful Mass offered by Cardinal Ratzinger at the funeral of the Holy Father was VERY INSPIRING and BEAUTIFUL and that you would like to be able to attend more Masses like that one in your diocese. taking that approach might be more "acceptable" to your bishop depending on who he is because then it wouldn't seem as "traditionalist" where he would immediately not listen to your petition. by taking a more personal, subjective approach, and with the memory of our dear Holy Father JPII fresh in mind...it could help him think about it. just a thought.
Guest Eremite Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 Quote Vatican II a lot, and also quote Pope Benedict, who has a LOT to say on this topic.
"Until the Council, there existed side by side with the Roman rite the Ambrosia rite, the Mozarabic rite of Toledo, the rite of Braga, the Carthusian rite, the Carmelite rite and the best known--the Dominican rite--and perhaps other rites as well that I do not know. No one was ever scandalized that the Dominicans, who were often present in our parishes, had their own rite and did not celebrate in the same way as the parish priests. We did not have the least doubt that their rite was as Catholic as the Roman rite; and we were proud of the richness of having a number of different traditions. Furthermore, it is necessary to state that the scope that the new Ordo Missae gives for creativity is often excessively widened; the difference between the liturgy according to the new books, and the liturgy in practice in different places, is often greater than that between the old and the new liturgy when both are celebrated in accordance with the norms prescribed by the liturgical books."
MilesChristi Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 I would recommend that you start by thanking him for the indult Mass he is currently allowing. You might want to talk about how much joy and spiritual edification you receive by assisting at the traditional liturgy.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted May 15, 2005 Author Posted May 15, 2005 thanks y'all. the arhbishop is the one who gives the indult's for the Tridentine mass right?

Guest Eremite Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 EENS, Sorry to get off topic, but you need a new signature. Evil Ratzinger gives me the willies.

Hopefully Bishop Loverde will soon obey John Paul II's request for a wide and generous application of the indult I assisted at a beautiful Solemn High Mass this morning at Old St. Mary's. A glimpse of Heaven on earth...

Mass at Old St. Mary's is a goal of mine. you're referring to Old St. John's in SS as the 2nd one, right?
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted May 17, 2005 Author Posted May 17, 2005 so i really could say Kissing the scarlet hem, that would be sweet.
1337 k4th0l1x0r Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I'd just be happy with removing the guitars and the sappy feel-good music.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted May 17, 2005 Author Posted May 17, 2005 that is defientally a start.
