Theologian in Training Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 I saw it last night and I really liked it. Granted, it had a very slow start, they had to throw in the love interest, and it is a completely secular view of Christmas (Christmas Spirit), but I still liked it. It is clear that the primary audience are children, and the fact that all they played as trailers were children's/family movies only attested to that fact. I think I have probably now seen the majority of Cat in the Hat based on advertising alone. Once the movie got a quarter or more into it, it started getting really funny. Will Farrel is incredibly funny, and the fact that he was able to be so innocent and naieve was funny in itself. If you want to see a cute Christmas movie with a really funny guy, then I would highly recommend this movie. God Bless
Azriel Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 Cool. Glad to have positive feedback. I, personally, love Will Ferrell. I hope this does well for him.
Theologian in Training Posted November 9, 2003 Author Posted November 9, 2003 Yeah, even the language seems to be cleaned up. There were many opportunities to say something vulgar or mean, but they made sure to keep the language clean and the violence to a minumum...definitely a children's movie, don't know what that says about me, but I liked it. God Bless
Kilroy the Ninja Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 Hey, I'm looking forward to seeing it... even though it will probably be next summer on cable... just can't seem to get synched with a sitter... oh well. Glad to hear it was good.
Lil Red Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 i'm glad you gave us your opinion. I think it looks hilarious!
Theologian in Training Posted November 9, 2003 Author Posted November 9, 2003 You are all very welcome. Also, just in case you thought that all the funny parts were already played on tv, there are A LOT of parts that still have, as of yet, to be shown. God Bless
Theologian in Training Posted November 11, 2003 Author Posted November 11, 2003 When does it come out? -Mark It came out this past Friday Elf God Bless
cantstopdancin9 Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 "Santa's coming? I know him! I know him!" lol
Winchester Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 Will Ferrell is the funniest curly headed man alive. Mr. Mugatu.
Theologian in Training Posted November 11, 2003 Author Posted November 11, 2003 "Santa's coming? I know him! I know him!" lol The part about the "angry elf" is hysterical too. You guys have to see this movie, I can't discuss it with anyone. You all stink :P
BLAZEr Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 http://www.christianitytoday.com/cr/2003/006/3.10.html It's short, its about Elf, its good news. Check it out.

Cool, I had no idea at all that he was Christian. Like I said, it is a secular portrayal of Christmas, but not, after reading this interview, it makes sense. Thanks for the heads up...now I might have to see it again. God Bless
Theologian in Training Posted November 11, 2003 Author Posted November 11, 2003 (edited) What the USCCB had to say: elf Though I agree with this critic in sighting the secular tone of the movie, I don't fully agree with everything he had to say. Besides it is number 2 in the box office, second to Matrix, and getting excellent reviews! BTW, don't click on the link, unless you want a lot of spoilers. Anna Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 I was just discussing with my sister how I want to take the kids to see this movie!!! We have a neat old--very old--(I'm nostalgic) movie theatre in a nearby small town. Their matinees are cheap, and always packed. Kilroy, take Baby Crusader along with you to a matinee. Your kid won't be the only one acting up! It's a whole new (fun!) experience, believe me! Pax Christi. <><

In fact, some of them in the front row thought it was funny to throw popcorn in back of them...darn kids <_<
