Jaime Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 I'm going to reveal something that will take Cam out of the running for "Biggest Star Wars Geek". I have information that makes it impossible for him to hold this title and I had it verified by two separate sources. He cannot be the biggest Star Wars Geek ever because I know for a fact that Cam has kissed a girl
1337 k4th0l1x0r Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005
I'm going to reveal something that will take Cam out of the running for "Biggest Star Wars Geek". I have information that makes it impossible for him to hold this title and I had it verified by two separate sources. He cannot be the biggest Star Wars Geek ever because I know for a fact that Cam has kissed a girl
There was a radio show here talking about people who went to see the midnight showing and they were asking what the Star Wars fans are called (like Star Trek fans are called Trekkies). I was about to call in and tell them what they're called: Virgins. This is no offense to anyone who is, like myself, big v.

KizlarAgha Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 Having seen this movie, I can honestly say that the least Catholic person was Obi-wan Kenobi. For those of you who have seen it. I will say this: All he had to do was reach out. I think you know what I mean.

I felt like that was a huge reason children wouldn't understand the movie, well, that and the whole Jedi Temple thing (that of course, being the BIGGEST problem for kids probably). Like I said some place else around here, I felt that Anakin had a very Catholic perspective (at the beginning) on fatherhood.

I knew most of the story before I saw the movie, I obviously knew that Anakin becomes Darth Vader. I knew why he was "more machine than man" and yet, at that part I completely expected Obi Wan to reach out and help Anakin. He kept saying Ani was like a brother to him, and I know that no matter what my brothers do I will love them, so if he were truly like a brother, I don't care what he's done Obi Wan never could have left him. My thought the whole time was, "Obi Wan could have prevented everything, had he helped Ani right there. That could have prevented the death of millions of inoccent people. It could have kept the Skywalker family together!" And then I realized that this is just a movie, and no one really died. I also realized that had this not happened we wouldn't have 4,5, and 6. I get a little into the movies sometimes.

Anakin still would've been evil and could've betrayed Obi-Wan even more... the only other solution was for Obi-Wan to have struck him down with his light saber and killed him- that's not the Jedi way. Not to mention, due to the brother-like relationship he knew he could not kill Anakin... he even told Yoda this. Anakin was as good as dead, and if I was Obi-Wan I would've just walked away too...
iggy Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005
I refused to see LOTR for like.....3 years. Now it's my favorite movie(s).
I have actually never seen any of them, which I am told is funny, because I "fit the demographic exactly" go figure. I love telling some of my friends because they freak out (one of them actuall hits me, from time to time, when I mention it)

iggy Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 Really? In the new one? I haven't seen it yet, I live in a small town with one screen, and Star Wars is not on it... We are driving (an hour) tomorrow to a theater with a good sound system to see it.
Nah, I think Obi-wan knew that Anakin was still redeemable. He said as much himself, during the fight. If he had picked the boy up, helped him, and all, before he was hideously burned... It just sickened me. There was only one decent, human, thing to do, and Obi-wan didn't do it.

He was lost... already dead to the dark side. Some things in life that we must do are hard to do. Anakin was twisted and full of hate, he had every chance to change... he refused. More innocent lives will die because Vader lives. Obi-wan did the right thing.... He was very merciful in the fact that he didn't see to it that he died. God Bless, ironmonk

God Bless, ironmonk
I have to disagree because I think the point of the movies is that Darth Vader isn't lost at all - he's redeemable. I think this movie went to great lengths to show how confused and conflicted he was in his choice. The part where he screams as Vader at the very end seems to indicate this. In my opinion, had Obi-wan been merciful and helped him, before he was hideously scarred beyond recognition, he could have brought Anakin back. I think that Obi-wan, Yoda, Padme, and even Senator Organa could have made things right again. Instead, Obi-wan chose to leave his "friend" there, screaming and clawing helplessly in the dirt and ultimately being burned alive.
azaelia Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 Lol, it was good, but that doesn't mean it's the best movie series ever. It's just the most loved. Most of it is badly written and over-SFXed. But it has such a fan following and is so memorable that those sins can be forgiven, I think. But you can't say it's better than LotR, which is just amazing, or the Godfather, which is legendary. As much as I love Star Wars, it's not the best movie in the world... *prepares for defensive onslaught*
Zoecool13 Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 Ok... Anakin was to the dark side, and Obi-wan could not save him... He had to fulfill the prophecy! Had Obi-wan helped, Anakin (by that time, Darth Vader) would've betrayed him. We know this, because Padme dies... had Padme not died, then maybe, however Padme was going to die, and Anakin would blame Obi-Wan and just be led even more into the dark side, and probably killing Obi-Wan. Obi-wan followed the Jedi code, and did the right thing. Had the code been different, Obi-Wan should've struck him one final blow, and killed Anakin. Now, I know some of you will argue that Padme died due to losing the will to live because Anakin joined the dark side. Even if Obi-Wan did help Anakin, do you think Padme would still want to live after the love of her life tried killing her?
Catholictothecore Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 I'm seeing it tomorrow, and I make no claims (nor do I desire to) about being the biggest SWG in the world.

Instead, he took his legs, and arm. He showed mercy. The rest he left to nature. While there is a point of view that he left his brother, there is also the point of view that he loved his brother, which Obi-Wan actually stated. However, had Obi-Wan helped Darth Vader/Anakin, there would have been no premise for the following movies. And that is the point. This is all fantasy and all a set up for VI-VI. Anakin/Vader is redeemable. And good wins out. Thanks be to God. Cam

However, looking at episode III as though IV-VI don't exist, I can say that Obi-wan was heartless and cruel. Striking the final blow would have been better than letting his flesh melt off as he's burned alive.
