Because it is impossible to "boycott everything," we have to pick our battles. Good criteria include: whether the boycott will make a difference and the grievousness of the offense.

Ironmonk is providing information that will make us slightly more informed consumers. There ain't nothin' wrong with that.

Except he seems to categorize grievousness as whether or not it involves homosexuality.

Corporations exist soley to make money. Corporations are what our capitalist society is based on. They are amoral entities, and, given our IMmoral world, corporations will necesarily do evil things to attract customers.

KA has a point about getting upset only about the gay-supporting corps, when they're all evil, given the chance. Only the companies that fail might be sticking to moral principles...

I have settled upon boycotting companies that actually have the laws of the country rewritten to pad their own nests, but everyone has to take their own stand. Don't even imagine it's easy.

actually, I believe he's categorizing whether it will have an effect as homosexual. the abortion support is already so deeply entrenched among all corporations it's no big deal to them and we don't have a choice, but it's still not that widespread in regards to supporting the homosexual agenda and it is possible to make an effect by boycotting those who pave the way to corporate support of the homosexual agenda.

however, there is also the other hand where there is a greater tendency to dwell on homosexuality and issues such as that... and I don't condone that.

abortion support is far more evil as it is murder.

I hate them all and could do without cars or any of that stuff theoretically, I'm just going to have to build my own island. It's time we started making our own companies to make our own stuff. that's my idea behind Belloc Enterprises

You are suggesting that Ironmonk has shown a pattern of proposing boycotts as a response to pro-homosexual corporations.

I took your theory and put it to the test. Using the power of the Phatmass search engine, I searched all of Ironmonk's posts for the word "boycott."

Here are the boycotts he has advocated:
7/7/2003: Boycott China (abortion), boycott Taco Bell (labor abuse of migrant farm workers)
8/11/2003: Boycott Taco Bell
10/18/2003: Boycott China
2/19/2004: Boycott MTV (sexually exploiting our children)
4/18/2004: Mentions an article about boycotting Girl Scouts over Planned Parenthood.
5/31/2005: Boycott Ford (supporting legalized homosexual marriage)

The first thing that I noticed is that Ironmonk's "pattern of boycotting all things homosexual" began on May 31, 2005.

Second, his mention of things to boycott has reflected a cross-section of Catholic teachings (e.g. against abortion, for worker's rights, against Communism, for broadcast moral standards).

I really don't think that your characterization of Ironmonk is fair. Further, I think that your belief that he was focused on the issue of homosexuality is related to your own sensitivity toward the topic.

You left out Boycott Kraft just this month for homosexuality. Hmmm...seems somebody is doctoring the evidence. Nice try.

2 in one month is a pattern.

with all due respect, you're reading too much into it. he advocates boycotting things based on gravity and possibility of success... and 5/7 of them had nothing to do with homosexuality

There will be NO beefs against phatmassers here with each other, im pretty sure I mentioned that already.

drop it.

Now, I'm "doctoring evidence"?

Ironmonk did not call for a boycott of Kraft. I just read his post. You can read it here: link to Kraft thread. He called on people to contact Kraft and ask them to drop their sponsorship for the Gay Olympics.

Now, you could equate that with a boycott if you'd like. That's fair enough. But, do you really believe that I chose the search term "boycott" in order to "doctor the evidence" by avoiding the Kraft thread? Do you think that my search was intentionally misleading?

Regardless of the answer, even having 2 hits (i.e. Kraft and Ford) doesn't at all paint Ironmonk as a "one-issue" Catholic in terms of his choices of boycotts.

Well we won't worry about it. I'm apparently not allowed to speak on these forums.

its kinda hard when requests made can at times be ignored which can be quite fustrating at times when trying to maintain civility among other things.

lets get back to what i believe cam said.....what is there to boycott?

i think i remember a phatmasser saying if we did we would all be eating grass right now

With all due respect to you as a moderator: conflict happens. When it plays out, we have the chance to get closer to the truth.

KizlarAgha has been civil. No one is name-calling. I don't think that shutting down this discussion would make Phatmass "a better place." I hope that you will allow this little side-discussion to run its course.

Well I'm not comfortable with the topic at all. I've seen how this forum works:

Slandering homosexuality - Great job.
Slandering protestantism - nervous glares.

Hmmmm...
