Didacus Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Startig a new thread. because I want to try to make the top 10 today, and SFD i just keep falling short! My favorite: Les beatitudes. Heureux sont les doux, ils veront Dieu! Anyone else?
Thy Geekdom Come Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 My favorite Gospel is the Gospel of John. It's awesome...deeply poetic and mystical. Did you know that when St. Jerome translated the Gospel of John into Latin from Greek, the beginning and the Resurrection story came out in poetic verse?
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 I'm a fan of Luke, but its John in a close second
philothea Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 The Sermon on the Mount in Matthew used to be my favorite part, but nowadays I like the Last Supper discourses in John best.
Cathurian Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 John. I agree with you Philothea. The Last Supper discourses are my favorite part of the whole Bible. The first time I ever read them, I cried.
Mickey's_Girl Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 John! "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." MG
Andrea348 Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 i like John and in the words of one of my former campus ministers....if we didn't have the gospel of John, we wouldn't get that Jesus was the messiah.....he is so much more clear about that in the gospel of John especially with all of the I am's
let_go_let_God Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 I love the Gospel of John, it is so rythmic and different than the other Gospels. IMHO John's Gospel shows Jesus more as a man as He teaches and grows in what God has instore for him. Matthew comes in a close second. It's hard to believe, but John is my favorite Gospel, but most of my Gospel notes and hi-lites are in Matthew. God bless- LGLG
Didacus Posted June 3, 2005 Author Posted June 3, 2005 Thanks people... er, but I seemed to have made an error in terms (forgive me, that's the french thing again). What I made to translate was 'passage', which now seems silly to me... REALLY silly, since the translation is just that... passage. Hence the question I had intended was: What is your favorite passage in the Bible? Oops, my apologies... Please go easy on me boys and girls, I am kinda new at this internet chat thing... :leave:
Guest Eremite Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 I like Matthew because there's so much stuff he hides in the composition of the Gospel to uncover. Mark is good for a quick read. Luke has the best nativity record. And John is the best for theological meditation.
Guest Eremite Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005
Hence the question I had intended was: What is your favorite passage in the Bible?
Mine is Revelation 21:4:
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.
