On the whole, I believe that most ladies who join the convent in America go to college, at least for an undergraduate education. However, a friend of mine entered a cloistered convent without a degree, and our own "sista2b" joined up with the Dominicans in Michigan straight out of high school. It's really a toss-up and varies from order to order, perhaps even from house to house. Hope this helps.
