Please excuse my home, MIcah.  I've got some work to do when I get home.

It only took us 16 hours by car...but we've spent under $50 on gas...good mileage...

[quote name='Raphael' date='Jun 10 2005, 01:41 PM']By the way, I should add that it's really cool to be surrounded by faithful Catholics.  The Newman Center was an oasis in the midst of paganism...this is a mountain (literally and figuratively) in the midst of a great sea...you can fit more people on a mountain.

It's truly humbling to be here.  At the Newman Center, I was one of the go-to people for theology answers and stuff...here, I won't be.  It's kinda nice that way.

Don't think we will let you slack or something... We are losing our two biggest theology people to FUS,.

We drove through Columbus, but I don't think we stopped. Either way, I wouldn't know how to get in touch with you. ;)

Lol. Consider yourself blessed you weren't here during the charasmatic conference. I tried to go to the Eucharistic chapel to pray quietly with Jesus for a while. Did that happen? Ohhh no. There was even a woman walking around directing people - IN the chapel right next to the Tabernacle!!!

lol, Bro. Adam you're starting to remind me of myself when I first arrived and was getting over the "shock that is Franciscan". I was leery, but only somewhat, of charismatic things before I went. After Orientation, I was reading "Sacrosanctum Concilium" and the GIRM like they were Scripture ad-ons. And it was all just downhill from there.

the main reason I left FUS was because I was becoming too critical, too fast, and too easily. maybe a character flaw on my part, but nonetheless, my criticism was beginning to take over and branch out (hence my confrontations with the associate pastor at my parish). FUS put me in panic mode over the Liturgy and all things related (Eucharistic Adoration, etc.).

Eep. I know. I'm reading Sacrosanctum now as extra non-school related reading. Not so much because mass there bugs me, but some other things. I can sit through a mass at FUS fine, though the EM's are starting to really bug me.

I have to finish here though, the acadamia for religious education students is just too good. I'm sitting in Father Dominic's Liturgy class this fall semester, I'll let you know about it.

I wasn't extremely happy with the liturgy at FUS, but I kept in mind that the Charismatic Conference was also in town, so a large part of it was what they were doing in the pews...I'll have to wait for a purely Franciscan liturgy to make a judgment.

Yeah, I'm bummed about academics (and REALLY wanted to take the Liturgy class... lol, we would've been in the same class--not as hidable as the library).

I figure, I gained a lot of basic and foundational stuff to keep me going and grounded... and I can always return when I can live off campus (you are SO blessed!) and get my Masters or something there (depending on my financial situation).

Mass depended on the priest. Some priests celebrated beautiful liturgies (despite all the EMs). But usually, when there was a good Mass going on, the person next to me was either:
a. muttering gibberish under their breath
b. slapping me with their "praise hands"
or
c. doing their homework.

I wasn't too comfortable with the architecture of the chapel (too plain and post-modern) and the "choir" in the front reminded my formerly Methodist friend who's coming with me to FUS way too much of Protestant services. He also expressed that there should be more art. I didn't think the tabernacle was especially exalted, although it could have been worse. I think what I liked least was that the whole chapel felt more like an auditorium than a church.

Not that it's the only thing I noticed...the vast majority of my rating of FUS is favorable from what I saw.

Oh quit making such a FUS over it.
