Theologian in Training Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 So, I found out that I am going to be assigned to a very affluent parish. However, before doing so, since the pastor will not be there for the month, I am going to be working in the inner city. Where I am going to be working is named after a priest who was violently murdered when it was a parish. I hate going into anything with certian biases and such, but it is not known as the best area. So, I just ask for your prayers that I may remain safe while assigned there for four weeks and that I may not approach it for fear of my life. Thank You God Bless
philothea Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Oh, and PS... Now you will have to post every day so we know you are all right! Though, that kinda goes for everyone. If I don't see someone for a while I start to worry. So everyone has to post everyday. Ok?
Brother Adam Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Wow, talk about baptism by fire! God will protect
Thy Geekdom Come Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Wow...remember that He is with you always.
Theologian in Training Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 Thank you all. Like I said, I don't want to go somewhere with certain biases, so I hope I am just exaggerating based on what I have heard, but still, prayers are always good, especially in that area. On the plus side, I will get to learn Spanish since I know little to none. Again, thanks for the prayers God Bless
Theologian in Training Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 Off I go...thanks again for the prayers
Theologian in Training Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 Definitely appreciate the prayers. It was actually a very good experience. I helped out in the work program, whereby they try to get a job for those that need it and are ready and qualified for it. He said he never had such an experience as he did today and jokingly blamed it on me, and for wearing the collar Also, I was misinformed. It is not that bad of an area, and there is a place to park my car. The priest, whom I spoke about, was tied up and gagged, and died of suffocation, since the burglars left him there by himself. Still not something to be happy about, but he was not directly shot or stabbed. Besides, it is amazing what wearing a collar does. Most of the surrounding population is hispanic, and though they may be involved in gangs and drugs, they still have respect for priests. Tomorrow I think I am going to do the same, and also help teach computers. I have yet to decide whether I want to spend some time in the daycare or kindergarten programs. I like kids, but the youngest I have dealt with was 3rd grade, and that was no easy task. Anyway, thanks again for the prayers. God Bless
