Because of the damage to the room that you might be doing... Having food in your room can damage the carpet and furniture and attract ants, roaches or worse... The "fragrance" of dirty laundy can whift past your room to the rest of the house... and having carp all over the floor is a general fire trap. I'm not saying it has to be neat as a pin or even make the bed every day. But sometimes those rooms are horrible. It's disrespectful to your parents as the owners of the house to keep it as a garbage pit.

(can you tell that today's the day I go into my daughter's room with a bulldozer??)
