photosynthesis Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005
It's a poor, politically correct translation, and the notes are a lot of modernistic nonsense and often at least border on heresy. If you follow the debate boards, that "LittleLes" character is always quoting them to try to debunk Catholic belief.
just because LittleLes quotes it doesn't make it an invalid translation. Lots of faithful, good Catholics quote the NAB. what's your translation of choice?
Tony Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I prefer the NAB actually.. the footnotes are well ofginised

I'm not an translation expert, but I'd go with the RSV, the old Douey-Rheims, or the Jerusalem Bible (actually what I have -not the best, but OK). The NAB isn't an invalid translation, but it's not the best, and the notes are absolutely horrible (I'd completely ignore them).

Sarah_JC Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 What every Canadian woman needs 1)Jesus 2)A devotion to Mary and the Eucharist 3)True fufilment of one's vocation (in marriage I'd say a husband who lavishes affection and attention... but I'm a ham) 4)A knowledge that she is beautiful, loved and strong 5)Good friends, at least one who's in walking distance for those lonely days after a huge snowstorm when the roads shut down 6)Well worn/loved Bible (anyone ever watched that spoof "I like big Bibles?" I don't know where it is...) 7)A good spiritual advisor 8)Clothing that enhances one's pre-existing beauty (including a flattering parka) 9)Chocolate, in at least 3 forms, in the house at all times (i.e. hot chocolate, chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate, leftover easter bunny) 10)Two touques, cotton for the summer, wool for the winter

People might laugh at me. <look, it's a touque! on the phatmass phorum!! I put so much heart and effort into my list, and added the last one as a joke, and that's the one people liked the most!

Sarah_JC Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Awesome. I recently bought a new parka in a pastel blue that matches my eyes. I have to beat the boys off with a fish. So, back onto what "every woman needs" by which we mean, really really wants. A modest swimsuit, that looks good. A low maintenance haircut. A rubber chicken. C'mon keep 'em coming!
