Leno stole it off a British show though. They were talking about a guy that had a frozen sausage thrown at him in his car and they were making jokes that 'it could only be the work of a new Pope'

was that a real newspaper? (i'm thinking there might have been a story about the pope below the picture or something... or they accidently mixed/matched a headline.. and it got sent in for Leno's headlines... was it?)

It's real... I think someone doing the layout screwed up. :rolling:

One might wonder if it was done on purpose, but I've worked for a paper and since they're always having to meet deadlines they probably slapped it together without thinking. :rolling:

I vaguely remember situations like this in Journalism classes. When you know what the content is going to be, one solution is to restructure the layout so the headline and the picture are at different heights, so the eye doesn't "think" the two are related . . . as an earlier poster noted, sometimes in the rush of deadline, they don't have time to look at the "big picture." Another possibility is they didn't have a story for the space next to the article, or a promised article didn't pan out, and they pulled a stock photo as "filler" . . . again, without thinking about the end result.

What makes this schtick work for Leno is that it happens often.
