Howdy folks

Laurence here-- its been a while since I've logged on (mad apologies to Group 6 of FBC1!) but I've got an interesting update and I wanted to break it to the Phatmass community first

I've formed a game development company -- White Knight Games -- and our first PC computer game is only a few months away from completion... hence being outrageously busy :P

Our goal is to produce high quality Christian entertainment that reinforces common Christian values, Bible scripture and non-violent gameplay, combined with great graphics and fun gameplay so that our games can be enjoyed by all ages.

A beta website (complete with latin placeholder text) is up and will be fleshed out soon:

http://www.whiteknightgames.com/beta/wk_home.html

We're making a Christian computer game -- "Timothy & Titus" and are looking at publishers who can bring the game to market, so your support and prayers would be much appreciated.

As we're from Perth, Australia, its all a bit of a challenge but we're actually going to be in Portland, Oregon from July 28-30 at the Christian Game Developers Conference (CGDC). I'll rock my Phatmass shirt and take some pics ;)

Anyhoo-- just letting ya'll know-- so expect frequent updates on how things are going..

I'd love to hear any feedback / comments as we get closer to release to get a feel for how the game might be received in the marketplace-- so feel free to drop me a line at laurence@whiteknightgames.com

PS. PM producers & rappers -- I loved Massmatics and would love to promo some work as part of the flash game we're developing as well

Wow. I've been dreaming about something like this.

Except my dream was to make an online RPG, where characters could become priests, knights, etc. Protecting the Eucharist would be the goal of the game.

Sounds awesome! Though a question: Why does your About Us page have Blizzard Entertainment and Starcraft Ghost featured?

Sorry-- the link I gave is to the beta page as the blog, forums and ecommerce is still being integrated

The latin and basically all the content on the pages is all placeholder text (ie. pls ignore :) )

Sorry to confuse, check back in a week or two and the site will be up in its proper form, with more info about us and the game we're making.. a trailer is a few weeks away and there will be some juicy screenshots soon

Awesome stuff, what type of game is it? RPG or adventure?

It's a PC game? Windows only? Have you licenced a commercial game engine, are you using an open source engine, or have you developed one from scratch? I'm really quite curious about the technical details. Is it 3D or 2D? I didn't see any screen shots on the site or anything.

I'm curious because I've had something in the works as far as a Christian game company goes and I'm just wondering if we are on the same page.

That is awesome.

Cheers.

Hehe--

Yeh PC Game, Windows only for the moment, because it takes hundreds of thousands to develop on the consoles, and a good publishing deal.. Hopefully we'll get there :)

The engine is Cipher-- www.cipherengine.com -- A commercial engine ala Quake 3 technology, that is now available on the cheap, has decent features, and good development potential.

Screenshots are being uploaded by our web devs as we speak-- check back Monday/Tuesday and they should be there :)

You've had something in the works as well? Awesome mate-- let us know if we can be of help / assistance or if we're thinking on the same lines

Yeah, I had a sweet deal with a game distributor in the works but it didn't work out. I had 5 awesome graphics designers and several developers ready to get started, but I can't exactly retain them without a ton of money, and without the deal, I've got nothing.. I'm sure another opportunity will present itself one day. :)

For sure man-- sounds like you had good plans in the works!

Its starting to get tough, being this late in the game and console cycle players are getting more demanding and development more intensive-- if you think we can ever be of assistance or help dont hesitate to holla hey!

Cheers

That would be great. I just have basically no budget right now. :(
A lot of the games I would like to develop will require a multi-million dollar budget, and I'm not sure if that will ever happen. :)

I have one Catholic game in particular that I like conceptually, it's totally epic, but I'm trying to start more modestly.

Cool. Yeah, we should talk.

What do you think of Unreal technology? Also, have you checked out the OGRE engine at all? I have the source code for it and think it seems pretty decent. The price and licensing are certainly good. :)

Also, for 3D design I lean toward Maya. What software are you into? Just curious.

cool -- yeh im le_escalante on YM or lance__east@hotmail.com on MSN !

Actually Im not a developer at all-- Anino Entertainment www.aninoentertainment.com handles all the technical side of our JV.. When we went through engines I think they evaluated quite a few and based on its merits, Cipher got the go-ahead-- I know Ogre was a contender.

Unreal would be 'unreal' hehe-- though the licensing is a killer from what I hear-- Maybe for our sequel ;)

I think the Anino artists use 3dsmax?
