Laudate_Dominum Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 the Arab TV that I've seen paints a bleak picture of their culture to my mind. I've seen TV from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iran and other places that is disturbing to me. I'm all for "good muslim relations" and all that, but it must first be admitted that our religion and theirs are in opposition. The mission of the Church is to proclaim Christ to the world and make converts to the true Faith. The mission of Islam is to spread Islam throughout the world. The Koran is in many ways hostile to Christianity and even blasphemous by Christian standards. In their eyes our beliefs are blasphemous. The clash is inevitable, unless one or both parties betray their own religion. But its more than doctrinal, its cultural as well.
Nathan Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I wouldn't mind checking out an Orthodox Jewish service, at a synagogue. If the Gospel didn't win my heart and I didn't decide to convert to Catholicism, I probably would've chosen Judaism.

They believe a Gentile only has to follow the 7 Noahidic commandments in order to be righteous before God, so they think it is silly for a Gentile to impose 613 commandments upon himself.

Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Ive been to a mosque but i refused to pray. Moslems are really nice great people, i think that their relegion is evil, but i still love them
Theoketos Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 TWC I am glad that it was a fruitful experience, but it saddens me that you participated even accidently, and it is for that reason that people should not attend services...it is kind of scandalous.
photosynthesis Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 I don't think attending services of another religion is scandalous, although I suppose it depends on what is happening at the service. If I'm at a service of another religious tradition i usually participate selectively, i.e. saying prayers and participating in things that are true and consistent with my Catholic beliefs, but not participating in things that go against them
