Anyone going to a Steubenville Conference this year?

I'm going to San Diego July 29-31. Fr. Stan is speaking, and Matt Maher is our worship leader! Awesome!

I'm looking forward to it, although I'm praying my group will be more into it this year than they were last year.

Pax,
Jen

i have never gone, but a youth minister friend of mine has taken her youth group before and she says it is a totally worthwhile experience.

I never went either, but my younger sister did and so did one of my brothers (when they started going I was already in college). Now I live in Steubie, and so even though I don't go to the confrences when my inlaws come down from MI for them (I have 2 inlaws who are still high school age and my mother in law chaperones) we sneak on campus to see them (since campus is closed off to people NOT there for the conference). lol

Ah, yes!! The Steubenville Conferences are absolutely amazing! I can't go this year, but I have been at Steubenville North in the past. I was able to hear Fr. Stan and Matt Smith talk, which was really neat. Adoration night is truly incredible! Everyone should go at least once.

They are conferences for Catholic teens. They have awesome speakers, mass, worship, confession, worship, a concert or two usually, adoration, small group discussions, the rosary, time to hang out with other catholic teens. They're awesome.

Franciscan University of Steubenville puts them on, but they're located at colleges throughout the country throughout the summer.

Last year's theme was "Rise up: A Catholic Revolution," about being strong in our faith, being a counter-culture revolutionary for Christ, sharing Christ for others. This year's theme "Experience the Glory" I think is going to be more internal, about falling more deeply in love with the Eucharist, and the Church.

At FUS they also have conferences for adults (and a couple other geared for specific groups, I believe...).

He he ... yep I'm on the Steubie Logistics team and we have really strict orders to not allow "outsiders" to the event -- yup, gotta love the Safe Environment rules for teens.
IcePrincess -- On Saturday nights right after adoration is done, sometimes friends and I go "great" Jesus as they take the Blessed Sacrament back to the Chapel from the Feildhouse. We usually sit on the grass until they walk by w/ Jesus -- then of course, we kneel. You should try it! There will be conferences this weekend and next! :)

God bless,

The conference is very Charismatic and entertaining. If your spirituality is geared toward this, then these conferences are for you.

I went to a conference once back when I didn't know much about the tradition of the church and all I had access to was Charismatic prayer/spirituality. It was memorable and fun. Lots of speaking in tounges and charismatic prayer with opportunities to rest in the spirit.

I don't know about the conference at FUS, however, I'd assume it would be the same. The student on campus (like myself) have plenty of access to charismatic prayer events. The Liturgy at School is oriented to cater to Charismatics, with a couple of "Healing Masses" offered during the school year. The music is much the same (so i'd imagine the music at the conference would be too).

If you feel that you've outgrown Charismatic spirituallity and are lloking for a more contemplative, tradtional time or prayer, these conferences probably won't be for you.

In short, Fun and Charismatic, i'd recommended it for anyone, but wouldn't go myself.

Yup I've gone three times. This year I'm chaparoning again.... I love the conferences! BUT for the past three years I've said "I'm not going to go this year." And then at the last minute the Holy Spirit says "oh yes you are!" And then each year on the way home I sit and think "So THAT'S why you wanted me there!" It's kind of cool!

We're leaving next weekend July 15-17 for Steubenvill East. I think they are a great weekend for the teens. While my spirituality tends to be A LOT more contemplative then this....I always find myself drawn into the weekend and come out being able to go deeper into contemplation. Kind of neat! :)

I'll have to see if I can manage it (with 2 kids under 2 things aren't always predictable lol).

haha We got kicked off campus once... but we've really only sneaked on twice. I had legit reasons for going the other times I went on during conferences (I had a friend who was car-less so I drove her places, so they actually let me on campus to picker up.. she's graduated now, though).
