Carnanc Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 I am interested in the proper way to recieve communion on the hand. I don't want to debate over recieving on the hand or the tounge; for those who recieve on the hand there should be a proper way to do so with reverence, even if it is not the normative way. my question is in regard to the particles I have recently noticed are left on my hands after recieving. They are small and though it is likely, I can not even be sure they come from the Host. I have tried to consume them by putting my hand to my mouth, but cannot have full confidence that no visible particle is dropped. how scrupulous do we need to be on this? must we examine our hands for several minutes after Mass?? this is the first time I have noticed this, and I'm really worried about what to do, or is this just being scrupulous??

If you are going to receive from the hand, one should create a throne for the Sacred Species with the left hand underneath and supporting the right hand. You should consume the Sacred Species in front of the celebrant or EMHC. At which point you move on. Making the sign of the cross is not required, however, it is acceptable. The Church teaches that the particles are Sacred Species until they cannot be determined to be Sacred Species any longer. So, if a particle can be discerned that it is part of the Host, then it is to be consumed. Your concern is a valid one and is the best reasoning as to why we should not receive in the hand. Are you being overly scrupulous? Absolutely not. Actually, if one is going to be literal, one should have to purify one's hands after reception of the Sacred Species. The celebrant has to purify the ciborium and chalice, why would we not purify our hands? That would mean washing our hands in a sacrarium. However, I digress. Should we examine our hands, absolutely. Without question.
Cam42 Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 It was brought to my attention that some have been taught to make the throne with the opposite hand. It doesn't matter. Either.....or. It would depend with which you are more comfortable.
