Apotheoun Posted July 9, 2005 Author Posted July 9, 2005
this is very interesting to me. apotheoun-- do you know of any other valid sources that i could educate myself more on the eastern rite?
The post below (from the Apologetics forum) includes a link to an article that gives additional historical information on the Eastern Catholic Churches:
Below is a link to a rather detailed article on the history of the Eastern Catholic Churches and how they were often mistreated by both Latin Catholics and Eastern Orthodox, and how they were often used as pawns by various governments in Eastern Europe. I couldn't bring up the actual page, so the link is to the Google cached page: Church in the Middle: Greek-Catholics in Central and Eastern Europe Special Note: Although the term "Uniate" is used in this article at various points, it should be borne in mind that the term is considered to be offensive by many Eastern Catholics, and so I recommend that people avoid using it.
But the Eastern Catholic Churches are in communion with the Pope, while the Eastern Orthodox Churches are not.
Apotheoun Posted July 22, 2005 Author Posted July 22, 2005 There are actually Eastern Catholic Cardinals, so we better be in communion with the Pope, since some of them voted in the last conclave.
