Maccabeus Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 I own about ten different Bible translations, simply cuz I love the Bible, and like to compare if Im unsure about something etc. My favourite Bible tanslation is the RSV (revised standard version) published in 1946, now a days its somewhat obseleat, but it is made under (Ignatius Press) It means lots to me, cuz thats the Bible translation in which I first read the New Testament, so I know the nature etc of Jesus from that translation. (hard to explain) its kinda like when after that I read the KJV, I thought to myself (oh all of a sudden Jesus talks like Shakespeare) How about you (notice my Question mark button on my keyboard does not work)
Maccabeus Posted July 9, 2005 Author Posted July 9, 2005 Bible translations I own: 01: RSV 02: NRSV 03: NIV 04: KJV 05: KJV 1611 06: NKJV 07: GNT 08: NAB 09: NASB 10: ASV
Fides_et_Ratio Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 I like the Douay or RSV-CE the best. I also own copies of (many from when I was "church hopping"... each new pastor I met gave me a Bible... lol) -NAB -NASB -KJV -NIV -RSV -CEV -NLT -TEV ..and maybe a few more..
zunshynn Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 I use the NRSV but I don't like it. It's a bad translation in my opinion. I also have the KJV and use it often.
MilesChristi Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 I use the Douay-Rheims most often. It's definitely my favorite by far. I also have: RSV-CE Biblia Sacra Vulgata NAB KJV Confraternity Revision of the New Testament
cmotherofpirl Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 New English Bible I brought back from Brit-land. For theology I use the Navarre, and the Saint Ignatius study bibles edited by Scott Hahn for apologetics.
White Knight Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 I use the New King James Version & Old King James Version. I'm wanting to get a New American Bible soon... so I can see scripture at its fullest. I always seem to feel like theres something more too the Bible than what Protestant Versions are claiming.
Norseman82 Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 NAB - 1970 CCD edition - that's the one I was raised on, so it's a familiarity issue with me. I also have a KJV I use for comparison purposes, and I also have a New World, which is the Jehovah Witness (mis)translation I keep on hand in case I wish to research Catholic-JW differences. Plus I have a version in Spanish and Polish from when I was more serious in trying to learn those languages.
Cam42 Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 I use four, for the most part. RSV-CE, Scepter Publications NAB, Word Publishers Douay Rheims, online edition Latin Vulgate, online edition
phatcatholic Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005
For theology I use the Navarre, and the Saint Ignatius study bibles edited by Scott Hahn for apologetics.
same here
Maccabeus Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005
I use the Douay-Rheims most often. It's definitely my favorite by far.
in my RSV-CE it says that the Douay Rheims version of Sirah is longer than that of the RSV-CE or any other, I'm actually wanting to get the DRV for a long time now for that matter. But the RSV-CE will always be my favorite.
Honour Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 (edited) I am in love with my NASB. (Ryrie Study Bible) It makes me sad to think of getting a new bible...much less a new traslation. I love the way the NASB reads! But I also own a NAB and I think I'm going to buy a RSVCE. I also have a NIV, NKJV, and a KJV...somewhere. Sometimes I feel guilty that I have so many bibles I rarely use, when there are Christians all over the world that would love to have just a page of scripture in their own language. blutrane Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 RSV-CE for Me I teach conf. prep for my church, so the Religious Ed. building is collapsing under the weight of a million New Americans. Not to hot for that particular version and really not a fan of the notes made by the editors.
Nathan Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 For devotional reading: the Jerusalem Bible (1966). For serious study: the RSV-CE and the NRSV-CE.
