melporcristo Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005
Angus was very clear on radio that he had no intention of changing his stance. "I'm willing to live with the results of what has happened," he said, noting also that he had only been to church a couple of times since January, when Father Lemire first warned him about the stand of the Church on Holy Communion and politicians supporting laws gravely contrary to Catholic teaching. He says his family has also refused to go to church as a result of the incident.
That is so sad that he even had to drag his family into this. So sad. This guy needs to read Corinthians.
Iacobus Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005
Yeah! And since the good MP has only been to mass "a few times since January" he should know that he shouldn't be recieving communion anyhow, unless he's been to confession first! He should thank the good priest from preventing him from committing sacriledge
But that is the thing. How does the Priest know, at the time, that he hadn't been to confession. We know now that he hasn't repented for how he voted from his actions in responce, but what would have prevented him from going to Confession before Mass. How does the priest know that he hadn't confessed to a different priest in the same parish or in a different parish? How did he know? The stance our bishop has taken is that "If we don't know, i.e. you aren't wearing a pin or making statments before Mass and in an time frame that you could not have confessed to a priest, you won't be denied communion. But if we do know for sure, don't brother coming up."

Sinner Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Iacobus...... I don't think the burden is on the Priest. The guy has publicly made his stance and thumbed his nose at the Church. Suppose he did go to Confession...... then he could talk to the Priest before Mass and let him know. Gimme a break.

[. . .]
The priest must make a judgment based upon the public forum. Since this MP has not publicly repented of his action and conformed his position to the teaching of the Church, it was right that the priest refuse to give him communion, otherwise public scandal would ensue. Anyone who has taken a public stance against a teaching of the Church, must publicly repent of that position.
