Honour Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Why I want to be a Catholic, I’m tired of squabbling, dwindling protestant churches I’m tire of anything goes, believe what you want to, and if it is too different from my interpretation, then go start your own church. I’m tired of not feeling connected to Christ through other Christians, I want to be a part of the real visible body of Christ. I want to meet Christ in the Eucharist. I want some authority in my religion, I want some decisiveness in my faith, I want some history in my church, and I need more stirring beauty in it all. I want to worship God with all my senses, I need to be a part of something bigger than me. I would like to sit down in a room with Christ and pour my soul out to him. I would like to know for certain that my sins are forgiven when I confess them.. I want some assurance that I will be in heaven in the end because.... for the life of me I can’t remember the exact moment when I accepted Jesus Christ as my Personal Lord and Savior. Why I am scared to convert.....every sentence above starts with “I”. It shouldn’t be about what I want...it should be about the truth. But then again....If you can’t rely on your own self to discern what is true, is it not the Holy Spirit that guides you? Could this burning desire to embrace Catholicism be Him leading me home?
theculturewarrior Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 You will have all your needs met. They are all rooted in a desire for Truth, and there is nothing wrong with that.

I find no err in having a fire burning in you for the Eucharist. You were made for God and he desires to know you more intimately that you can possibly now imagine. You have shown that your "I" seeks Jesus and his bride, the Church. Let there be no hesitation, run to Jesus and set all aside that may hinder that race.
journeyman Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 From my point of view, the use of "I" in your list is not a bad thing. Every one one of those wants/needs/desires deals with a bigger issue - just as if you had said "I yearn for world peace." Go for it (not to scare you off, but you will run into a few of those things within the Catholic Church as well - but the diversity in support of the unity is one of the things that appealed to me and brought me all the way in - what the politicians have taken to calling the "big tent.") God Bless
