dUSt Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 http://www.throwdowngo.com/ What is this all about?
corban711 Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 i never liked that band throwdown...all those hardcore bands from my county...blah! hehe.
melporcristo Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 yeah not really into their stuff ... but I don't know what the intro and person holding the Rosary is all about ... hmm ...
dUSt Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 They also sell a Virgin Mary t-shirt in their merchandise section.

is it like ... a mockery? I would actually buy the shirt -- i like the design. But reading the bands Bio, they sound a little violent. flip Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 They are totally whack...look closely at the hands praying the rosary...they have had their finger cut off. These guys are all image and don't know jack about what they are representing. This is Apollo not Flip.
SevenSorrows Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005
They are totally whack...look closely at the hands praying the rosary...they have had their finger cut off.
I don't know man....I am looking closely at this 19" monitor and I can see the pink finger in the back. and the pinky finger in the front is either covered by shadow or is curled in (holding the rosary). I don't think they were trying to portray "cut off fingers". With the site/graphics looking so good, I doubt they would have used a cheesy shadow trick to make it look like fingers were missing.
SevenSorrows Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 I used to love Throwdown about 5-6 years ago. They are a SUPER CRAZY Orange County band. They were trendy in "the scene", super brutal live shows. Yeah they are violent and potty mouthed, but at least they are Straight Edge...hahahaha. I don't know what their deal is with the Catholic imagery. - maybe they saw that Avenged Sevenfold is having good luck using it. - maybe it was just a random good idea. - maybe they got a new Catholic member and he convinced them to use it. - maybe they are mocking the faith. - it just looks cool (most likely answer).
SevenSorrows Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 I wrote to Throwdown's management and already got this response: Mike, It is by no means mocking the Catholic church nor a profession of any members faith. It is conceptual artwork that ties in with the album title, "Vendetta," and just one of its connotations. In this case it represents mafia type imagery, much like a movie, book, video game or other type of media might, and Throwdown certainly aren't in the mafia. If you examine the artwork you will notice certain subtleties - an imposing man in a confessional, but with blood on his collar; a hymn book with directions to a crime scene inserted inside; etc. These are artistic images meant to invoke different feelings. Throwdown aren't mafia killers who go to confession, much as Metallica didn't really smash anyone with a hammer on "Kill 'Em All," Megadeth don't really believe in putting babies on clothes lines on "Youthanasia," Bleeding Through don't really believe in stabbing people in the heart with steak knives like on "This is Love, This Is Murderous," and Tiger Army don't really hang out with flying tiger heads with bat wings, and Pantera didn't jump through fire with reinventing the steel while holding a fifth of whiskey (well, those last two might actually be real). You get my point. Thanks for taking the time to think about the artwork and ask questions about it. It's very appreciated. Take care. -R
dUSt Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 Yeah, so basically, "it looks cool". Same reason Britney Spears wears a rosary I suppose. How trendy.
DemonSlayer Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 I have no idea what that's about, but in a recent interview, the bassist said that he and the guitarist are Christians. http://www.wisemenpromotions.com/interviews/throwdown.htm But their lyrics wouldn't suggest that, with a heck of alot of swearing; even though they are straight edgers.
InCircles' brother Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 asterik studio did the art direction stuff with mae for their cd the everglow... i've listened to throwdown... but it was awhile ago and i dont really remember what they sound like... but honestly... i'm not too interested... and look at the bright side of the catholic church being trendy... if someone sees you with a rosary and they know throwdown or britany spears they might ask what the heck it is... and you might be able to introduce the rosary to someone... they might not care... but at least know they learned something knew... peace out
InCircles' brother Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 asterik studio also designed jimmy eat world current website... i forgot to say but asterik studio did the art stuff for throwdown new cd...
DemonSlayer Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Also, their vocalist was on As I Lay Dying's new album, but I'm not sure which song it is.
