the_rev Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Thy Kingdom Come! Tuesday of the Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Catholic for a Reason is a good book, it tells why people like Scott Hahn Converted from a theological standpoint. Also, I'd recommend Priest: Ten good portraits of men serving the priesthood today. It will help you to understand that there are so many good priests compared to all the ones who hae committed these scandals.
sweetpea316 Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 *takes notes* And yes, that Christopher West book IS good! I'm reading it again at the moment... Thanks again Birgitta!

Old_Joe Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 (edited) I'd recommend Sex and the Sacred City: Meditation on the Theology of the body, How to profit from your faults, Rediscovering Catholicism, Rome Sweet Home (Scott Hahn's conversion story), Introduction to the Devout Life, and all of the above. sweetpea316 Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Agreed... Rome Sweet Home is awesome. I just read it for the second time and I think you'd get a lot out of it, cuz I know I sure did.
Guest T-Bone Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005
for beginners not that i'm insulting your inteligence or anything but uh catholicism for dummies
This is a good book. However, avoid the Complete Idiot's Guide (orange cover) like the plague!
Old_Joe Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I think that Catholicism for dummies shows that you don't have to be a genius like St. Thomas Aquinas to be Catholic. you can be like St. John Vianney and be very simple.

Brother Adam Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 It's very heterodox. I threw it away after reading about 5 pages, and this is before I was Catholic.

Very easy to understand, but good info for anyone who's missing some essential details! I grab this first when I have a question, to get the quick scoop, and to flip through and read a section at a time. Ooops...I mean Catholicism for Dummies is great, never touched the other.
