franciscanheart Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005
Ok, that makes sense. So you'd use salsa with chips for dipping and stuff? But pico on tacos, so very tasty and good for you,, burritos, etc. I always kind of just used them in the same way (I'm a Yankee so no surprise there haha), but when I make it fresh I call it pico and when I buy it from the store its salsa. I've gotten to the point where I think premade salsa from the store is kind of gross and really only cook with it (for the most part).
thats how my family is. its just not right (to buy it from the store) lol. here in texas we do have some pretty good salsas at the store but you can make this to fit your tastes perfectly. pico is a different consistency than salsa too. its generally chunky and you can tell what is what.
IcePrincessKRS Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Ok, now I think I get what the major differences are. Salsa would be as if its put through a food processor or blender, but the veggies in pico are diced. So what I make is actually a form of pico, not really a salsa. Thats good. That was always my intent anyway. haha I didn't actually have a recipe but I went by memory from the pico they serve at my uncle's restaurant. Here's another question, not salsa or pico related but it does deal with veggies... do you have a favorite gazpacho recipe? I've really been wanting to try making it, but I kind of don't think Matt would like it so I haven't. If I could just make a small batch, though, it wouldn't be such a big deal. My uncle's restaraunt had really good gazpacho but I can't remember exactly what was in it anymore. I s'pose I could ask my aunt, but she hardly ever checks her e-mail. lol
curtins Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 We've got a book here called Nueva salsa- its got these insane salsa recipies in it 54154 9\/\/|\|5 411 (0|\|d1|\|\3|\|75

franciscanheart Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 Sorry Ice. I've been rather busy and ... unable to get to the computer. Anyway, I'll post it either tomorrow morning or send you an email. I made salsa for the youth group with one of my friends (also with my name) and it was a hit. Apparently not many of them make it themselves. Who knew?
IcePrincessKRS Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Thanks Laura. No rush, like I said, I'll probably be the only one who eats it!
franciscanheart Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 omgoodness! I completely forgot! sorry! I'll get it!
franciscanheart Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 er.... my recipe is kinda big. lemme ask my grandma for a smaller one
franciscanheart Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 lol. thats one of my fav times of the year - at the fun run when they have the chili cook off.
Janana8706 Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 this is really ironic. I've been out of town for over a week, and when I got home, my mom had a bunch of tomatoes, and was like i want to make salsa. I told her she should make the recipe from my aunt, but she couldn't find it back, and so i just stumbled over this one. Hopefully she'll make it soon. If anyone has some more recipes, we'd love to try them, so we can pick our fav. Thanks a million
IcePrincessKRS Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 I have some in my cookbooks but I've never tried them. I'll post them if you want, though.
