curtins Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 phat: yesterday I started the total conceration to JEsus through Mary by St louis de Monfort. I was wondering if anyone else here has done it and if so- do you have any tips. At the begining it says to practicie mortification- is that like giving stuff up?? and it says to rid yourself of the spirit of the world- so is that like material things ie can I not lets say listen to music or play video games during these next 33 days?? I'm very excited about doing this and glad to be doing it and its awsome cause since I'm at cape cod I can go to my local church and say each days prayers there in front of the tabernacle (church is farther than biking distance at home.) so any tips suggestsions comments etc would be appreiciated thanks
ForHimAlone Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Congratulations! How wonderful! I will be consecrating myself August 15, the Feast of the Assumption. It's going to be exciting! For your mortification and separation from the world, I would maybe look at the things that are most time-consuming in your life (computer, video games, watching movies, listening to music, etc.) and try to give up some of the time you would have given to these activities and exchange that time for a time of prayer, quiet, solitude, spiritual reading, rosary, etc. Make sure to make a special place for the Blessed Mother in your heart through prayer and being alone with God so that she may adorn your soul in her virtues and bring you to her Son. I have a question for you. Did you say a novena before your Consecration?

I did pray the novena before....it is a glorious thing....perservere.
corban711 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 (edited) Oh the consecration to Mary will be the greatest gift to your spiritual life if you take it seriously...what a gift! like st. louis de montfort says...it is the quickest, easiest and fastest way to sanctity! it changed my life forever! i do a daily consecration prayer now, and a longer version on any Marian feast. i love Mary so much! here is what i recommend...do all that st. louis de montfort says to do. don't get discouraged if you mess up...but get up with great trust asking Our Lady to help you make it well! pray the Rosary as often as possible begging for the grace to love that prayer! spend time talking to Our Lady besides just reciting the prayers and BEG, i mean BEG for the grace to REALLY KNOW HER! St. Maximilian Kolbe would always say "who are you oh Immaculata?" beg to know who she is and her importance to your life...you will find out when you do this! Edited July 15, 2005 by corban711
IcePrincessKRS Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Yup. I first did it when I was around 14, and I renew it every year.
Seven77 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 curtins: great! i made my consecration in 2001. it is awesome to belong totally to Jesus through Mary. She makes life sweet. you will see amazing things happen.

But other than that I dont but then again I work alot I've never said a Novena in my life before but would like to. I just have no idea what to do or when. thanks
Fides_et_Ratio Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 I'm working towards it (I want to be truly prepared).. I got a scapular, but it broke (twice now!)... I'm wondering if I should take that as a sign? lol
Nicole8223 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 I used to always have my scapulars for like a few weeks and they would break. Then I got this cool rosary scapular and I've it had for like 4 years now, and I never take it off. It's great. Look into one!

mine came from Rome by my previous spiritual director who was back visiting to celebrate the wedding of a friend of mine. it has a lot of sentimental value attached (even if it's turning out to be a cheapo! lol... actually it's just really BIG for a scapular (like the size of a playing card) and keeps getting "stuck" under my shirt and things of that nature )
jgirl Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 Oh no! I was going to renew my consecration for the 15th, but I forget to start the preparation! This reminded me. Is it okay to make is a few days late?

IcePrincessKRS Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Yeah, also when you renew its not absolutely required to go through all the preparation again, but it is strongly recommended as its a great spiritual "exercise" (somehow that doesn't seem to be the right word to use, but I can't think of a better one lol). I, admittedly, have skipped out on the prep a couple times, once because I forgot, and then because I was pregnant and ill most of the time. If you can do it, though, you really should.
Joey1976 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Anybody read the book by St. Louis De Montfort "True Devotion to Mary"? Iwas reading it and on page 27 in the last paragraph in the Chapter called Necessity it quotes from Psalm 58:14-15. There isn't a verse 14 and 15 in that Psalm. Also, it quotes Psalm 86:3 and "City of God" is not in that Psalm either. Can anybody explain this? Thanks
karin Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 ok this may sound like a stupid question can you tell me more about the this Consecration i am very interested...
curtins Posted July 19, 2005 Author Posted July 19, 2005 its 33 days of daily prayers and readings- not too long- and basically you concecrate yourself to Jesus through mary after the 33 days. And Its basically a full renewal of ur baptismal promises http://www.kensmen.com/catholic/totalconse...onmontfort.html
corban711 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005
ok this may sound like a stupid question can you tell me more about the this Consecration i am very interested...
according to st. louis de montfort...total consecration to Mary is the quickest and easiest route to heaven. you give all that you are and all that you have to Her motherly care, and in exchange for your generosity, she gives you all that she is and all that she has. (of course, this is done over time as you go deeper and deeper in your consecration). so when you die and you appear before the Lord in judgement you will have nothing of your own to offer Jesus. you will have no virtues, merits, good works, etc. of your own to give Jesus. this might sound bad at first, but not when you realize that you WILL have all the love, merits, and virtues of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. so when the Father looks upon you and He sees the love of the Heart of Mary....there will be great rejoicing in Heaven and your place will be high indeed.
Semperviva Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 LOL i have started this at least 4 x and never done it perfectly for every day straight...i always forget a day!!!!!!!! ONE COOL IDEA i have a friend, who actually completed her consecration, lol, and she ahd a bracelet made for her wrist which is made of an actual piece of chain...so forever she has a chain around her wrist surrender to Christ through Mary..because Louis Marie descrribes this chaining to them in total consecration...i really likes that idea and plan to do it when i don't forget!
