Paladin D Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Fans (like me) have been going crazy over this announcement. It's been known for a while that a film will be made, but recently there's been a few exciting updates (such as an official release date). This announcement was released at Comic-Con. http://www.superherohype.com/news/transfor...ews.php?id=3280 Transformers Moved Back to 2007 Source: DreamWorks Pictures July 13, 2005 With Transformers writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci taking time off from the project to go to Rome and start working on J.J. Abrams' Mission: Impossible 3, starring Tom Cruise, DreamWorks and Paramount have moved the big screen robots adaptation back from November 17, 2006 to July 4, 2007. The feature, based on the globally popular Transformers franchise, will be directed by Michael Bay (upcoming The Island, Armageddon). Steven Spielberg (War of the Worlds) is executive producing the film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (upcoming Four Brothers), Tom DeSanto (X-Men, X2: X-Men United) and Don Murphy (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) serving as co-executive producers. DreamWorks head of distribution Jim Tharp stated, "Under the direction of Michael Bay, and with Steven Spielberg executive producing, we know that 'Transformers' is going to be the kind of explosive action movie that is perfect for the height of the summer movie season. By staking our claim on the 4th of July, 2007, we ensure that we not only have the time to make this movie the way it should be made, but also to build excitement and awareness leading up to its release." "Fans around the world have wanted a Transformers live-action movie for a long time and we are thrilled to work with DreamWorks and Paramount to bring this legendary saga to life on the big screen," said Brian Goldner, President of Hasbro's U.S. Toy segment. "With some of the entertainment industry's best talent on board for this film, fans will experience Transformers in a way that is incredibly powerful." DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will handle the international release. Hasbro will work with the production team and DreamWorks on all aspects of the film's creative development, marketing and promotions, and will manage merchandising in conjunction with the release of the film. This week, DreamWorks is launching the official Transformers movie website at Comic-Con International, being held from July 13 - 17 in San Diego, California. Transformers will also be making its presence at the convention known in a big way, with a huge 18-wheeler truck sporting the instantly recognizable Transformers logo dominating the area near the DreamWorks booth-and much of the convention floor-letting thousands of fans know that Transformers is coming to the big screen on 07-04-07. Introduced in 1984, the Transformers brand took the world by storm with its compelling saga of the Autobots versus the Decepticons. The innovative "Robots in Disguise" resulted in a tremendously successful toy line from Hasbro and Takara, comic book series, television program and an animated feature film. More than 20 years later, a new generation has discovered the excitement of the Transformers brand and its legendary characters, including the two leaders of the opposing sides: Optimus Prime and Megatron. Today, the franchise features a popular toy line, an animated series on the Cartoon Network and a chart-topping comic book series from IDW Publishing. And for the official Transformers movie site (which openned yesterday) http://www.transformerslive.com. I suggest checking out the forums, lots of activity going on. For Don Murphy's message board (the domain where fans went to talk about the film and place their input): http://www.d13satellite.com/donmurphy/foru...y.php?forumid=8 . To top it off, here's a fan-made teaser poster for the new film. (For those who don't know, that's the Decepticon logo). Paladin D Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 The good news about all this: Many of those involved in the project (such as Don Murphy and Steven Speilburg for example) want this film to be true to majesty and mythology of the Generation One Transformers series. WAHOO! They'll be focusing on 10 Transformers in this film, the confirmed ones so far are: Optimus Prime, Megatron, Soundwave, Shockwave, Starscream, and Jazz.
DemonSlayer Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 This is pretty interesting, not a big fan though.

Paladin D Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 The new cartoons are bad, but the classics are awesome.
White Knight Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 I remember the the classic cartoon in the 80s. I remember the intro scene where Prime transforms from a Truck into a fighter. thats the scene that stuck with me, it was played ta the beginning, with the music. Just to let ya know I wasn't a huge fan back then, it was one of my Small shows I watched. I was more into G.I. Joe and Ninja Turtles.
Dj 86 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 WOW!!! I really want to see this movie. I had a big collection of transformers when I was a kid. I thought it was so cool to have a boom box radio, and cassete tapes that transformed into robots. I actually made a beat with the samples from the old cartoon like 3 years ago lol. Thanks for the update Paladin..your the man!
reelguy227 Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Transformers are sweet ,loved watching the movie and videos when I was a kid ,should be a good movie.
kaidoh Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 idk about yall but they better make it really good or am goin to be really p-oed
Lounge Daddy Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Man – I am not comfortable with the live action idea The time and money spent could easily limit the number of Transformers characters and along with them, story development If they wanna really do it right – in my opinion – kick it in anime … but even then I would have one complaint: my favorite character Starscream will never be the same with out the original voice actor, who also was Cobra Commander in the GI Joe series, and died more than 10 years ago I guess I am saying I am planning on being disappointed --- live action has too many limitations in a story like this, and will cost more than it needs to I will expect a silly Scooby Doo with a few big robots (puke)
LazarWolf Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Yeah, should we putting "live-action" in quotation marks to describe this? It seems like it's going to take some serious CGI to pull this off.
Paladin D Posted July 16, 2005 Author Posted July 16, 2005
Man – I am not comfortable with the live action idea The time and money spent could easily limit the number of Transformers characters and along with them, story development
This film will focus on about 10 Transformers characters, which is more than enough for one film. If this film is a hit and if they make sequels (that's what Don Murphy wants), they'll be adding more TF's in the spotlight. This doesn't mean there won't be a lot of Transformers roaming around in this film, but the story would focus only on a handful at first.
If they wanna really do it right – in my opinion – kick it in anime … but even then I would have one complaint: my favorite character Starscream will never be the same with out the original voice actor, who also was Cobra Commander in the GI Joe series, and died more than 10 years ago.
Doug Parker did the voice of Starscream in a special cameo appearance in one episode of Beast Wars Transformers, and he did a pretty dang good job. Hopefully they'll cast him for the Starscream role.
I guess I am saying I am planning on being disappointed --- live action has too many limitations in a story like this, and will cost more than it needs to
Star Wars: Episode 3 is saturated with CGI, Hollywood shouldn't have much of a problem with this film (especially if they hire ILM to do the work).
I will expect a silly Scooby Doo with a few big robots (puke)
The top-dogs (Steven Spielberg, Don Murphy, etc) want this film to be PG-13, not a kiddy flick. Expect to see some brutal violence. The assurance many of us fans have, is that we have a crew who wants to keep this film faithful as possible to the classics, and want to preserve the greatness that made Transformers such a hit.
Paladin D Posted July 16, 2005 Author Posted July 16, 2005 Anyone seen Godzilla (the one in NYC)? If they could pull that off in 1998, what do you think they'll be able to do now?
Paladin D Posted July 16, 2005 Author Posted July 16, 2005
so you find my lack of faith disturbing, eh?
"That is correct, commander." - Darth Vader
White Knight Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 LOL, Excellent timing, that was the funniest thing you could have said Dallas lol. Because its Vader, ya just can't beat Vader's Dialogue its too cool.
